Well a huge part of our lifestyle is going into our gas tanks so here is where I picked for this topic.

I have seen the Honda Fit, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Aveo, Etc. but what gets the best mpg without being a hybrid?

My Focus gets 37 hwy and 28 city. I fill up with approx 11 gallons and drive well over 300 miles with a lil left in the tank when I refill.

I am looking to buy another run around and thinking seriously about getting a Fit but the first time I ever saw one was a members on here (blue) and figured I would start a comparison thread.

Again this is based on MPG so looks aren't the main topic even though they will make a difference in anyone's decision.

1st picture is of the 08 Focus and they do have a sport model also.
Bottom left is the Honda Fit and to the right of it is the Aveo.

What else get's over 35 MPG?

Yep the HF = High Fuel (efficiency) .. its a small car, doesnt have much power but they are reasonably comfortable to drive and are fun, and can be had very cheaply lol. ive had my 91 civic hb for years, even with a swap or turbo ive always gotten 34+ mpg with it. i continue to drive it all the time despite having a 30k truck sitting here too.

92-95 civic vx or cx.....best cars i have ever had for gas mileage. my first vx got 45mpg in town and 50+ on the highway. i dont see why anyone would buy one of these new "fuel efficient" cars that get 30-38mpg....honda had that shit beat 15 years ago. spend 3g's on a gas saver and use the rest for investing or soemthing..dont buy some new crap box that is cheaply made just becuase it gets 30+ mpg

Whoa! You can get double digit MPG with that? :D

No mentions of diesel yet?

Get any TDi Volkswagen...my dad has a Golf TDi and he can get 40+ MPG all day.

And of course, Volkswagens are great cars. Good build, great interiors...in my eyes, you can't go wrong.

Why no hybrids? If I could afford a second gen Prius, I would buy one.

And of course, Volkswagens are great cars. Good build, great interiors...in my eyes, you can't go wrong.I love the styling of the current VW's, but the diesel doesn't make much sense to me right now. Here's a comparison.

2007 Toyota Yaris
Average Cost: $12,500 (Mine was $10,200)
MPG: 34 / 40 (I average 38)
Fuel Type: 89 Octane
Current Fuel Cost per Gallon: $2.63

2007 Volkswagen Golf GLS TDI
Average Cost: $17,500 (Base is $16,000 I believe)
MPG: 34 / 45
Fuel Type: Diesel
Current Fuel Cost per Gallon: $2.79

So, from what I gather, you're paying more money for a VW that gets slightly better mileage, but costs more to fill up per gallon.

Golfs are bigger than the Yaris.

I don't know...I guess, different strokes, different folks. We got our Golf TDi when diesel was cheaper.

How big is the tank though?

We can get nearly 600 miles on a tank with the Volkswagen...and range is what it comes down to.

Screw regular cars. Get a Prius. Better for the environment, costs about the same as the cars listed, and will save you money when it comes to gas and insurance.

Golfs are bigger than the Yaris.I can seat 5 in my Yaris no problem. The Golf isn't that much bigger than the Yaris. I've got more than plenty of room inside and I'm 6'3". :goodjob:

Screw regular cars. Get a Prius. Better for the environment, costs about the same as the cars listed, and will save you money when it comes to gas and insurance.The Prius is over $22,000 and get nowhere near the advertised MPG. I think it was Autoweek or some other mag that did a cost analyzation on the Prius. Consider the cost of the car itself and the actual mileage it's getting, you're better off with a Yaris or Fit. Also, replacing those battery packs is very expensive.

We can get nearly 600 miles on a tank with the Volkswagen...and range is what it comes down to.600 Miles / 14.5 Gallon Tank = 41

Not bad. :cheers:

My Yaris: 400 Miles / 10.5 Gallon Tank = 38 :D

Again back to our little debate between TDI vs. Yaris. Please keep in mind that I'm not arguing with you in any sense. :)

Golf = 600 Miles per 14.5 Gallon Tank = 41 MPG
Yaris = 400 Miles per 10.5 Gallon Tank = 38 MPG

Good specs for both cars, but now lets compare the costs of fuel as they sit right now.

Diesel = $2.79
89 Octane = $2.61

Golf: 14.5 * 2.79 = $40.45
Yaris: 10.5 * 2.61 = $27.41

The Yaris gets roughly 2/3 the range of the Golf, but also costs about 2/3 of the cost to fill up. Both cars seem to be even all around. The only real difference I see between them as far as all-around costs go, is that the Golf is about $4000 more to purchase.

Oh yea, no arguments...just another suggestion.

That actually pretty impressive that the Yaris can seat 5. Looks a lot smaller than that.

10.5 is the smallest fuel tank I've ever seen in a car though...haha wow!

del sol type s .. d15b7 .. get around 450-500 miles to the tank .... 20$ at 2.79 fills her all the way up from empty . well at least my green sol gets that mileage .. my red one gets like 30 + if that lol .

I only like the 3-door Yaris...the sedan doesn't look too bad but it's oddly proportioned.

I'm still shocked that it can seat five properly.

agreed completely. I really like the look of ran's car. I'm still not sure how comfy it'd be with 5 people in there, though.
