I also noticed that if you stay on Peachtree St. past downtown things get interesting in a hurry. I've been through Riverdale a lot and it doesn't have anything like that feeling of being somewhere I should not be. I do agree that it's not uncommon for people to against the values and morals that may have been passed down from parents or family..I do agree that each person ultimately decides what choices he or she makes....I do however think that more often then not, kids and adults who live their lives making asinine choices do so because they had no parentage.

About 10 years ago some friends and I were in Baltimore for a wedding and we made a wrong turn at about 2AM. We ended up in the WORST part of the city and we about shit our pants after 5 minutes. Claton County EMS will work almost any trauma, nothing aganist them, if for nothing more than for new guys to get experience. I had 0 equipment (very bloody), there was no way I was going to pull him out of the car so I could do CPR and watch my rescue breaths bubble out of his ears and the hole in his face ............................

The last two times I had gotten bad feelings about going to Publix someone was about to get shot the first time and the second time people were acting particularly (sp?) weird. Don't know why it has gotten to where it is now. I have only been going for the past two years, but I can say when I first started going, it wasn't nearly that bad. A man came up, fired a single shot, and drove off in a dark-colored car at around 11 p.m.

“Someone walked up, fired one round, and that is it,” Clayton County Deputy Police Chief Tim Robinson said.

Gallegos, who lived in the Tara Manufactured Home Community on Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro, was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 11:46 p.m.

Eleven other young people, who described themselves to police as Gallegos’ friends and cousins, were sitting in their cars, or standing next to them in the shopping market parking lot, at the time of the shooting. Detectives interviewed all 11 witnesses, but came away with vague descriptions and no strong suspects or suspected motives.

“We have very vague descriptions,” Robinson said.

The man was described in the police department’s press release as a “young, short, Hispanic male, who remains unidentified.”

Gallegos’ friends and cousins, who apparently hang out in the Riverdale-area parking lot on a regular basis, could not say who the man was or why he fired a gun at the 20-year-old.

Crime Scene Investigators determined the bullet came from outside the Ford, which confirmed witnesses’ statements.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Detective Renan Lopez, (770) 477-3781, or Detective Steve Rotella, (770) 477-3624.

The Riverdale-area Publix has not been a high crime area, Robinson said, though there were a number of bank robberies there in the last year. Police did not consider the well-lit parking lot especially dangerous, before the shooting
