Question about people adding yellow foglights to their cars?

I have noticed the last 2 Varsity meets and driving around in general the popularity of the yellow fog lights in people cars, from Hondas, to even S-10 pickups to Altimas etc has risen

My GS has yellow fogs OEM as my ES. I always loved how they looked stock and nice and distinctive.

Now I see so many other non Lexus cars with the yellow fogs and now with people adding HIDs, I've been fooled many times thinking a Lex was pulling up but its not. I was just curious what really got this trend so popular recently as I have no idea. Thanks!

Its actually a snow thing. You are (supposed to) use yellow fog lights in the snow because it does not reflect off the snow and blind someone the way white fog lights would.

I can tell ya'll this, my HID's and yellow fog lights are perfect for where I stay at. I stay way out in the country. Hell, the part of atl I stay in, the negro's are just now getting their freedom papers. The roads are extremely dark. My foglights were literally useless and you'd never know I had them on going down a road before the lense and a couple of modifications. Now, i can't imagine life without them. 4300K HID + Yellow fog lights FTW

Yellow light has a longer wavelength so it can "stretch" over obstacles and you can see better/further. Snowplows and such use them in the snow because they can see better and it doesn't reflect as bad.

My 91 Prelude came stock with yellow fogs lights, and I wouldn't have traded them for anything when I had that car. If you'll notice when you're using the yellow light, the objects you're looking at have more clarity.

I wouldn't instantly throw the "JDM" stick at the yellow fogs either. Someone above showed that Euro cars have been using them since the 60's/70's. They just produce a better light for fog lights. I almost believe that white fogs barely do much at all beyond look good.

I almost believe that white fogs barely do much at all beyond look good.You don't want to use yellow driving lights though unless your headlights are yellow as well...the two differant colors will really screw with your depth perception. Fog lights are generally a wider angle and close to the car so it's not a big deal.

They basically just project the entire light out straight foward really blinding people. Those are worthless, they don't even accomplish what a foglight is supposed to do.

If yellow foglights are what you want, you need to get ones that actually accomplish the job.exactly, your prelude had fogs...a short and wide coverage -- the "APC" things you see are normally driving lights....yellow driving lights and white headlights don't go together very well. We had the issue on the race cars using the PIAA 55 watt headlight bulbs with hood mounted Hella HID driving lights....the color differances between the two really screw with your vision, especially at 150mph in the front stretch at VIR :tongue:

I could be wrong but it has always been my understanding that TRUE fog lights were yellow and driving were white. Yellow aids in foggy situations due to the color ( white in fog can easily bind ). If you think about it...white FOG lights wouldnt make much sense with this in mind. White lights are designed for clear weather and are supposed to project light WAYYYYY down the road, similar to your high beams but with a narrower path. I think the problem over the years is companies like APC name products FOG or DRIVING lights to sell merchandise and the true useage and naming conventions have gotten mixed up. I am no expert and like I said...I could be wrong but I am getting OLD and the above is what I have always been told.

Probably. We did a similar thing with a buddy's STi. Stock 6000k bulbs + yellow film meant SUPER green HID's. It was pretty sick.

That wasn't the light that was green. It was the film put over the headlights. And you haven't seen green in any Le Mans races or anytihng. Probably in some local or regional/local racing. Later, QD.

I'm getting some OEM fogs with 3000k HID's for mine. Not trying to be "JDM TyTe", not trying to be a race car, nothing of the sort. I just like the way it looks... simple as that.

I also considered it to be more of a Euro trend as well. I like the look of it matched with bright white headlights (stock 240SX, Lexus IS300), not much function for me really.
