01 Cobra vs. Porsche Cayman S

Heading out to get some Taco Bell. As I'm sitting at the light, I see a Porsche Cayman leave Chevron station by my apartment and get into the I-75 turn lane. My light turns green I speed up to catch the porsche before it gets onto 75. The light turns green so I make a left onto the onramp at a brisk pace and go around the porsche before it merges to 1 lane.

I get in the left lane and hang around 70 mph and he catches up. We line up at 70 and he gets the jump. I shift from 4th to 3rd and quickly reel him back in and pass before we catch up with traffic.

We slow down and work our way through taffic till it clears up again. This time, the highway is open as far as the eye can see. We line up again at about 70. He gets the jump and I pull on him and pass putting a few car lengths. We shut it down and I give him a thumbs up and go on our way.

It's been a while since I've raced someone and felt good getting the chance to pick on a Porsche again. Last Porsche was a Boxster S and was in the 97 Cobra I had at the time.

if it's a stock 01 cobra it was probably a regular cayman :X

Not much actually... JLT CAI, FRPP catback, and a crappy tune. Other mods are just suspension and brakes.

Congrats on beating an 03. Wonder if the owner might have started in the wrong gear as those cars are pretty strong stock. Have you done any mods to yours?

Might have been but pretty sure I saw an S on the back of it. It was red with a Tennesee tag on the back of it.

k.. just looked up the Cayman S specs on Porsche's website. Says the car makes 295hp. Stock 01's made 320hp. Mine put 285 down on a chassis dyno with the mods. Others that have dyno'd there cars at the same place swear that it gives out low numbers. I need to get her retuned though since the tuner didn't know what he was doing. All he did was add fuel because the car was supposedly running lean. He didn't turn off any sensors for the tune or even adjust the timing. I ended up putting the stock tune back in. :(

are you wondering if the cobra i ran had it in the wrong gear or the person you ran? Sounds like you're doubting me:( Mine is stock and im thinking the one you raced might have been automatic or the driver was slow to shift. I put 263 to the wheels on a Dyno Dynamics dyno and i'd be down to do a friendly run with you since the numbers seem to be in a good range:yes:

Defanitely not doubting you but the owner of the Cobra. I know I've been guilty of starting in the wrong gear or just having an off day. Like I said, The 03/04 Cobra are pretty stout and make mine seem like a pure dog in comparison. How I figure that I stand in the food chain is...

ehhh....I know anything is possible, but Terminator cobras put down 370ish hp to the wheels stock. I know weight plays a big roll, but like I said, anything is possible...but that seems unlikely.

They started talking about the Caymen and one of the techs told him that the best thing you could possibley do to a Caymen and change the gear in the rear end. He said if you do that, they will eat up on 911's. You should look into it, if you havent already.
I read that on the Cayman forums because they purposely did that to keep it slower than the 911 but its a possibility unless i get another car or boost:ninja:

Seems like every turbo car i have ever seen leeks oil .For some reason mine used to smoke when it was first put on then when it warmed it stopped.Later it just stopped smoking altogether and never smoked again.I just added a boost a pump because we ran out over fuel last time at 23 psi i wanted to push it up to 25 to 26 psi and spray a 50 shot .Then if it doesn't blow i will sell it soon.
