I have a b18a or b18b valve cover with the lumps on it.

if anyone has any ideas or pictures of nice lumpy valve covers, it'd help out a lot.

Because i have no idea what i want to do with it.

Shave it. Or let Bucky tackle it. You should get some soldiers painted on it or something. Or get the dc shoe on there like Washington. Be creative.

How can you call him a dick when everyone know's his car and then you, a nobody, tells him what you don't like it about. He could give 2 shits what you don't like about his car. By the looks of your car, he could probably go on and on about what he doesn't like about your car, but then he'd be the dick right

But dayyyyyum 25k for a turboed LS EG??? Wow that guy is out of his mind. He should know that you'll NEVER get back what you put into a car

there were other things said and i wont go into more details.

forget about that guy being a dick.

his guages are ugly though.

i just bought some textured black paint at autozone and just got done stripping the entire cover. I might polish the lumps and texture the indentions. I dont know I'll take pics of the progress to show you what is happening.

later.

later.Just strip it and clean it really good -- nothing wrong with raw aluminum...it will look just like the head and block :)

eh, i dont like that look.. if i dont like the look of this and neither does anyone else, i'll think of something else.

if i cared and were putting this on a car of mine, i would probably do a green or something, but im not.

i have a b16a2 not a b18a or b

Here's my results:

i started off with this ugly thing.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m53/EBPEM1_2k/DSC00436.jpg

I thought it'd look good enough with just the black paint and taped off lettering... I was wrong.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m53/EBPEM1_2k/DSC00442.jpg

So i went to the store and bought some stripper and metallic black paint to make it really nice.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m53/EBPEM1_2k/DSC00445.jpg
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m53/EBPEM1_2k/DSC00447-1.jpg
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m53/EBPEM1_2k/DSC00449.jpg

I only taped off the Honda badge and I'm pretty happy with the results. Here's the finished product all dried.

I'd suggest next time using aircraft remover on it to get rid it of the excess old paint and down to bare metal. Gotta be careful doing thick coats of paint too because it holds heat in, i've used 1600° ceramic paint before and it still bubbled up at the inner corner after about 6 months.

Powdercoating is by far the most reliable with the best results for the life of the valvecover. :2cents:

Polishing a honda valve cover is easy...

Polishing some SI wheels, kinda easy...

Polishing that Z32 intake plenum, not so easy

Ya it is like twice the size of a honda valve cover along with all the tight spots and curves and bullshit.

How would I go about doing it?

all you're really doing is sanding it. start w. a low grit like 100, then go to 240, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, then go to metal polish...

might be easier if you have a dremel

.blank cd
08-03-2007, 11:14 AM
alot of work, pack of sandpaper is like $4, 8 diff. grits probably be around 35

yeah.

100- 220- 400- 800- 1000- 1500 then 2000 and polish.

you dont have to use 2000 on metal. thats what metal polish is for. you use it for cars just to skip the rubbing compound step. I just finished my fender and hit it w/ 2000 and went straight to the hi-speed polish.

It would be a hell of alot better and easier to use those bench grinders and attach some polishing discs and get some of them compounds. thats how people usually do their V8 valve covers in the custom shops

Humphrizzle
08-03-2007, 11:26 AM
true.. i was wondering if i should have said 2000.

never polished an intake manifold before but i have polished floorboards on my old 74 VW beetle.

yeah...

to tell ya the truth, if you're using that bench grinder, you could probably stop after 600-800 w/ the sand paper. as long as the metal is smooth, the scratches will buff themselves out
