Okay. First off Im new to the whole motor stuff. I have a stock d16?? with 223,xxx miles. Yea...alot of wear. But I was browsing wikipedia the other day and read about about a "mini me" swap. My questions are:
1. Can I take the VTEC head and put on my d16??
2. Is it even worth it since my d16 has over 220,000 miles??

Well thanks alot for you time. And if there is anything else you would like to add PLEASE feel free to tell me. I'll take any information. Thanks alot.

Mikie

No its not unless you put new bearings in the bottom end, if you dont when you build up more higher compression on an worn out engine such as yours, it will sling a bearing , and the bottom end will knock, So if your going to do this then make sure you use a Z6 head not a Y8 , Z6 is off an 92-95 EX Vtec, Y8 is off a 99-00 motor, Good luck , But I suggest getting a Zc engine sohc JDM you love it, then go boost an you can get 190 hp out of a good set up an tune, thanks Joshua

^agree with josh accept the zc part ... build a6 or z6 then boost it .....

i placed an Zc in a Hb and its been boosting 7lbs daily for 3 years now no problems, its been tuned with chrome, and its stock block, now if you want more power then build it an run higher boost an tune an get more, but expect to spend 7k easy , thanks

i would recommend the d16z6 over the y8 as well. the head is much better than the y8 when it comes to boost. the cost of a z6 is fairly cheap and worth any headache or hassle you'll have building a minime.

..........Thanks ALOT civic, Joshua, sol, and sctty. Well what I wanna do is N/A. lol. Boost to ME, cost too much. I like it, dont get me wrong, but its not for me ya kno?? I may end up doing it later id I can get my motor built up to handle it. So if I get a z6 head from the 92-95 EX Vtec, its a pretty much just straight swap?? The reason Im asking so many questions is because this car my current daily driver and I dont want to get into anything thats gonna take more than I can put in.

I just read that link now and I see where it says about the slight fabrication on the distributor mount to make it fit. Is that hard?? lol. And Joshua, I know that you said the z6 is better for boost, so which is better for N/A?

N/A will be fine on any. they're all built for N/A. if you dont think you can do the work, then dont bother taking your motor apart. you'll get into alot of work you may not be able to handle. just pay a shop to do the work for you.

Aight. Well I could handle it I think becuase I would have alot of people able to help me(grandpa, 2 uncles, my dad, friends, ect) but its just money. Thats all thats stopping me. And here's my last question(I think). Would it be better to do all this work and convert to VTEC or just get a B18C1 non VTEC installed and everything for $300??? lol. The last option right??

And about B18C1's. Doesn't the 3rd gear grind in MOST of them?? And if so, is that a big problem?? How much HP stock do they on average put out?? Ive heard around 180. Im jus wantin to check and see if thats about right.

B18c1 is a Vtec ,(gsr) b18b b18a b20 are all non vtec and its easy to drope in, and as far as third gear grinding its b/c everyone dogs theres out and they start grinding you get a good one and it will not grind , hope this helps Joshua

He's right about the grinding issue. It's cause people abuse them and don't take care of it. My tranny has 200k on it. No grinds, shifts great. I change the tranny fluid every 3000 miles at the same time as an oil change (I do my own so it's only 12 dollars for the tranny oil from acura) and its clean as a whistle.

If you can get a B18C1 for $300 installed and everything then do that. But I just did my Mini-Me swap and it cost me right around $250. Ran into a little problem with my swap seeing as how I'm converting from OBD0-OBD1. Oh btw, boost is waaaaaay cheaper than N/A in the long run. If you really wanna be making power...boost is cheaper than N/A, but for a mild build...their about the same.
