[/rant]It varies by city or county but i'm positive there is a maxium fine for each violation set by the state, at least for moving violations anyways so not sure about tint...

I thought GA did away with the tint law again. I know it was here, went away, then came back, and I thought it was gone again

holy shit!, 7 years ago my first speeding ticket for 22 over was only $55, friend of mine just got a ticket in almost the same place a few weeks ago by the same exact bike cop for 21 over and his ticket was $164...its amazing how much shit has gone up through the years that quick, never gotten a tint ticket though, although i did pay $105 for a failure to obey traffic device ticket last year, and thought that was a little retarded

Suwannee, Ga is $92 for tint and i thought that was ridiculously high, oh well!
I thought GA did away with the tint law again. I know it was here, went away, then came back, and I thought it was gone againIt's been back and it's still the exact same law as before except it applies to EVERYONE that enters into Georgia, not just residents.

It's been back and it's still the exact same law as before except it applies to EVERYONE that enters into Georgia, not just residents. That doesn't seem right, when I lived in Arizona they allowed a much darker tint. I knew I had to change it when I moved here and I did. But if I was visiting, how can they give me a ticket for something that is legal in my home state? Again, I don't know the law.

they can. they removed the old tint law because it only applied to ga residents. the new one applies to everyone.

well crapI see it two ways, i fully understand and respect the safety concern but if I drive my car that's not required to have emmisions in it's registered county to a county that does require emmisions am I breaking any laws? If I buy a used car in Florida I don't have to pay sales tax because i'm a Georgia resident and we don't pay taxes on used car purchases but Florida does. Should I be required to pay the taxes down there? So why if a car is legal in it's registered state be required to abide to another states ruling...of course it can be argued MULTIPLE ways.
I have friends with duallies and race trailers that don't race down here any more because they get pulled over with their black tint and harassed every time...before they were always let go because of the out of state tags, they're from Indiana, it's not like they're running drugs down here to Dixie Speedway!!! lolol. Now they would be required to remove it on the side of the highway.

Georgia (http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/tint_ga.html)
NO / 32% Net / 32% Net / 32% Net / 2005
Note : New law went into effect that can be enforced on out of state vehicles as well as Georgia registered vehicles. Penalty is up to $1000 and/or 12 months in jail as a misdemeanor.
On Jun 8, 2004, the Georgia Surpreme Court threw out GA's tint law (http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/tint_ga_old.html) since it discriminated against GA residents by not applying to non-residents. Look for the non-resident exemption to be repealed next year which would reinstate the tint law.
This can have ramifications for other states who exempt non-residents from their tint laws. Legislation was sponsored in the 2004 session to remove the non-resident exemption but failed to pass.

The tint law went away for a year or so while it was run back through the steps and rewritten to apply to ALL applicable vehicles.

just my opinion. The day you're in uniform and have to walk up to a vehicle after pulling it over and can't see anything that's going on inside you'll understand...you better hope your hand is running on the quarter panel so you may have a chance to push off away from the spray of bullets coming through the side window at you. i know its their job but honestly a $1,000 ticket for tint? idk i guess from their point of view is understandable why they dont like dark tint...but i also dont think tint is all that dangerous. idk i agree with the law but not how they deal with it...

I have never been told anything about my tint(20%).What color is your car? Lighter colors tend to make the tint look darker. i had zero problems with my dark blue 300zx and it had a light mirror on it and never once at an issue...my white integra on the other hand always got harassed with the 20% i had on it. Then when i went from white to black wheels i got pulled over again by the same cop the same week! haha. Never once got a ticket though until i was hit by a rolling road block in friday rush hour traffic...gwinnett setup at an intersection just for seat belts, child seats, and window tint. Minding my own business, sunroof open, i get a knock on the window saying pull over...haha. I stripped the tint, got half off the fine then ONE (1) week later i see the front page of the paper regarding the tint law being thrown out after it was ruled unconstitutional...ONE WEEK! lol.

yeah, my shit is pushed in pretty good. lol. i understand the law and it is not a pointless law, but the fines make no sense to me. undercover cops wont get pulled over by cops because they are govt vehicles, but i do know a cop who has illegal tint on his personal car. damn double standards.

i removed mine before my court date... took several photos and showed the judge. Fine was only $75 and just retinted it legal limit after that
Does it make any difference if you purchased the tint when the tint laws were removed. GA's indecisiveness better not cost me money.

nope... I had mine tinted when they got rid of the law. Even had the receipt. He did lower my fine for taking it off though.

this is really stupid... someone that is going to shoot a cop.. isnt going to stop when they pull you over. Also if someone was doing something illegal they would just constantly pay the fine and leave the tint. Note that lots of cop cars have rediculously dark tint cops = hypocrits
