View Full Version : General Chat what will be the next big thing for the import scene?

what's next? the growing import scene has been through changes in it's short existence. the ever popular drag racing scene has had better days(though it will never die). rallying was experimented with but isnt as successful with the mainstream import scene. Now, drifting has taken over the scene, although it was unknown to most americans until a year or 2 ago, it is the fastest growing sport for imports.(it's practically a household term)

Luxury tuning is becoming more & more popular in Japan. but what is next? maybe we will see more grassroots motorsports? perhaps gymkhana will become popular in America as well. who knows? but whatever is next, i'm ready for it(that conclusion sounded lame but idc)

I dont know whats next...

But I think your sig is wrong.. I think VTEC was 1st introduced in 89 then it came out in the NSX in 91.. I dont know, I dont own a honda.. But I do have vtec fluid in my solara i need to check.

Entering what?

I think the next big thing will be twin-scroll turbos becoming more mainstream and everyone finding ways to put VTEC heads on subarus. Drifting will keep getting more popular, then idiots will start doing more of it on the street and the police will start cracking down on them. I expect that its going to be much harder to modify cars with upcoming emissions regulations.

Honestly the next stage of import performance is likely to be people tweaking hybrids. Electric motor attached to a turbocharged small displacement gas motor.

yeah i've put thought into the modding of hybrids as well, since they really are the future of the auto industry......eventually though, cars will drive themselves.

actually Dodge is creating (created) a 2008 SRT-10 SOHC Vtec. the viper gens have been on push rod from 92-06. They did not make '07 vipers b/c they were retooling for the '08 VTEC's. :goodjob: 600 w/ smog equipment on.

Dodge can't call it it VTEC. They have 2 get their own form of valve timing lift electronic control.

......WHAT? own form?? they already do retard. You expect them to use the same 4cyl vtec system for a v-10?

now if your talking about the name. they do. but in the end, just like toyotas VVT-i it's the SAME FUCKING THING

lol. I dont know anybody else who rides rotors as hard as this guy. Do rotary motors give you orgasms? Any thread about anything and you somehow manage to throw in a comment about some stupid ass limited production 20B or a 26B that I've never heard of but probably sucks just as much as every other rotary.

I say in the future somebody might perfect a rotary motor, but then again its not going to be anyway fuel efficient and they'll realize that they might as well use a modern V8 for much better all around performance. If rotary motors were the future everybody would be using them, its just a niche motor. Flat-plane V8 >>>> any rotary motor ever.

The next big thing will be the trickling down of solenoid actuated valves for infinitely variable timing and ridiculously high redlines. Should be just as revolutionary as fuel injection.

supras, sti's. evo's and all cars with a moderately high out put will begin to devalue or probably have over 150k miles reaching 18-25 year old's price range and will be bought and bring new levels of power, new parts will be out by then and civics and eclipses will be "old school" in the next 10-15 years maybe less, that's what i think... oh and all japenese tuners will be so jdm that they live in japan and then usdm will become popular

i believe the rotary engine is one of the best, unfinished inventions in cars.

It's a gorgeous concept. I just wish more cars would be rotary powered.

Until then, i'll stay with Honda.

agreed. VIP is getting bigger & bigger in Japan. they have some ballin cars over there. I saw a VIP RX7 with candy apple paint, mad clean interior with like 20" chromes.........& it actually looked good.
