People put Skyline badges on the G35 because in Japan that was the next generation Skyline after the 34, just as people put Silvia badges on 240s, etc., etc. After that we have the GTR which is not technically considered a part of the "Skyline" family anymore.
(someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's very close)

You are correct, only noticeable difference is RHD vs LHD, otherwise they're the same and funny thing is.. in Japan a lot of the Skyline owners rebadge theirs to Infiniti G35's

plus the skyline v35's can come with either 2.5, 3.0, or 3.5L engines. we only get one over here in the US: the vq35.

Most people are often mistaken Skyline for the GT-R.
THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
Previous generation, GT-R belonged to a different line of the Nissan Skyline Production. But since they were too famous, people always refer to it as "Skyline" in general and forgot about the non-GTR models, GT-S for example.
The later generation, which made it distinguished is the new Nissan Skyline aka Nissan Skyline 350GT aka V35 aka Infiniti G35.
The GT-R will be made off a totally different line and will be called Nissan GT-R, respectively.
Many people didn't realize that, thus claimed rebaded Infiniti G35 as Nissan Skyline to be ricer. They are not. They are just JDM-badged.
To sum it up:
Nissan Skyline != Nissan GT-R
