swap in a d17y8. thats a big upgrade for you.

pt3boomer
07-10-2007, 01:36 AM
what is the "d17y8". Is it an injected model?? This is the org. engine 263,000mi on it and it's an auto trans.......although I got the car for $400......I just want to know what "fits".....anymore suggestions?

sullen

d16y8 came in the SI chassis. it is a 1.7 fuel injected SOHC. shouldn't be too expensive to pick up...

pt3boomer
07-10-2007, 01:39 AM
dude.......what about the trans?

pt3boomer
07-10-2007, 01:42 AM
friend of mine told me to put a "zc" engine in it....from a late 80's integra...but what the hell is a zc?

sullen
07-10-2007, 01:45 AM
if you can find it, do an ls motor swap. the LS integras came with a B18 motor. thats a DOHC 1.8 L fuel injected. lots of people wants that motor though. no clue what the ZC motor is....my best(cheapest)bet is on the d17y8.

sullen

buy the entire motor set for any of these motors, engine trans, ecu, harness. don't buy the motor to put in with no tranny, how the hell would you drive it?

WRONG!! they came in the 96-00 ex models not the si they had the b16a2

I've done repair work.......cv axels, water pumps, brakes, stuff that I can do if I have a repair manual and tools to do it.........and maybe a beer.......but ecus and harnesses and stuff like that I have no Idea of/about.

sullen

ecu, computer. behind the passenger kick pannel. its the eectronic box, harness (wiring rope basically) looks like a big black string of wires and plugs.

sullen
07-10-2007, 01:55 AM
just make sure you put back in an OBD1 motor. don't wanna go thru the hassle of converting the car to another OBD....

pt3boomer
07-10-2007, 01:55 AM
what does the ecu control?

sullen
07-10-2007, 01:56 AM
everything

sullen
07-10-2007, 01:57 AM
if you can find a B series engine, that'd be the best way to go... i mean, they're the DOHC models. alot more options as far as building goes, and alot more power.

Personally i prefer the b23,665zyx

If you don't know what an ecu or harness is, get someone else to swap your shit.

Onboard Diagnostics 1st Generation. from 1996- is OBD2. OBD1 will basically be an easy swap. OBD2 will throw codes left and right. OBD1 is more of a mechanically controlled bit, OBD2 is generally more controlled by the ECU. just go OBD1. from say 1990-1995 motors....that should do.

dude...you ned to tell a shop what you are looking for (hp, reliability, mods) and payt hem what they ask of you. you dont need to tackle this alone. talk to a reputable shop and let them work some magic

wrong again bro...92-95 civic motors are obd-1 he has obd-0...obd-1 is not an easy swap for someone that has no idea what they are doing. he should stick with obd-0 or be ready to pay for an obd-1 swap/conversion from a reputable shop

Its was hard enough to find a shop.....Tom Hornsby of Acura Honda wouldn't touch the damn thing. "Dude, it's too old....88 and up only in here man" I think my car is a 4th gen right? 84-87. That's why I learned to do some shit myself.

sorry, i am a nissan dude. didn't know honda lagged behind for so long....my 1990 240 is OBD1. but nonetheless, agreed, pay a shop what they want for the swap. they'll know what to hook you up with.

im not real sure about that particular chassis but its gonna take some squeezing to get anything other than a stock motor in there. i had a 87 si a couple years ago and that thing had a tiny engine bay. get your use out fo the car and score a newer model!! or be prepared to pay

I don't know I haven't read that far yet.......

pt3boomer
07-10-2007, 02:34 AM
it goes by years...

88-91= OBD0 (technically it is a version of OBD1, but its generally called OBD0)

92-95=OBD1

96-00=OBD2

pt3boomer
07-10-2007, 02:35 AM
so I guess since it's an `87 it is obd0

no clue what the ZC motor is....
basically a motor like the d-series comes in single and dual cam nonvtec, but its old skool tho, i got a friend who blew two of them

I say you get a gallo12 or 24, its like a direct bolt in and i think the gallo 12 goes for like 300 bux with transmission and the gallo 24 goes for about $650 used and you can make like 300hp on them stock.

Hektik
07-10-2007, 02:45 AM

go to www.redpepperracing.com and read up on the car.

you said it was carbeurated, making it PRE-OBD as in, no on board diagnostics. most of these guys are not familiar with these cars, and are giving you misinformation. You can swap in the D16A1 from a 86-89 Integra fairly easily, but you will have to do a manual conversion. I just so happen to have had about 7 of this generation cars, so I have a motor in my garage that will directly bolt in and is carbeurated as well. I rebuilt it about 2 years ago for my last 1G CRX and never even fired it up because a drunk drver hit my car, PM me if you are interested in it, and a little more info on these cars. Either way, go to the website I directed you to and learn about these. It will get you on the right path.

DO NOT buy a newer D-series, it will not fit, they don't make mounts for it. The only swap mounts they make for these cars that I'm aware of is for B-series, but you will have to swap to a manual tranny and fuel injection.

Lol, ZC came out more in the mid 80's than late. It's a dohc D-series engine. Block stamp code is d16a1. It has 130 hp whereas the b18 only has 140. I think the ZC is lighter, not by much but it's still lighter and you can use a lighter D-series tranny on it. I'd go with the ZC but whatever floats your boat.

LIRL at EVRY ONE IN THIS THREAD

MISS IMFORMATION>( with one exemption)

liSTEN IN THAT CHASSIs YOU CAN GO b SERIES and D series.

listen if you can put a D series into a CvcC why not a 3gen, think about it. do some research bro. but your best bet is taking it to a shop . save yoruself teh hassle. I beleive the only reason the shop you went to didnt touch if because they did'nt know what the fuck to do :goodjob:

take it to a performance shop.
not a dealer.

wait. . . you don't want the obd1 swap. look for a b18a! Thats obd0 so you wouldn't have to do all these crazy things to it! just find a b18a swap and call it a day! there is one or two in the for sale section. looking under the honda/acura threads!
