can a car be titled in one persons name and insured in anothers? is that legal? illegal? know any places that will do it? thanks for any advice:goodjob:
No, or yes. Depending on who you ask.
some insurance companies wont write a policy for you, because legally the person writing the policy has no ownership in the vehicle, but companies such as progressive will give you a policy, but you have to write the policy and have that person, the owner of the vehicle, listed on the policy. he can be an excluded driver, but if he drives the vehicle and wrecks it, they will deny the claim...
also if there is an accident and the car is totalled, they will write out a check to the person whose name is on the title, not the policy holder.

that only works until you are emacipated, finished with college, or turn 23. Something like that. After that, it is illegal to be on your parents insurance.
