sometimes you need to do that ish for clearance....better than having youre valve cover poking an inch through a 3 foot hole....
but yeah, just add washers/longer bolts on the hinges if you want to do it..

what you do is take a couple of marshmallows.... heat them up so they are a little bit pliable but not completely melted... Then you take out all of the bolts holding the hood down and replace them with the marshmallows.
You use the marshmallows because they act almost as a shock absorber. Plus if you get into an accident they act almost like a quick release latch and decapitate you as you should be for wanting to do that bullshit in the first place.

but actually you do lower underhood temps quite a bit - especially if you do any sort of lapping in the vehicle

i actually used 1.5" nylon spacers from ace hardware. then i matched up the oem fasteners by thread pitch and got some that were 1.5" longer than the oem ones.
if your intake manifold is on the firewall side, it helps. there's actually a low pressure area there when the vehicle is in motion.....
