Just a quick question. On average, how long should it take to re-build an automatic transmission in a domestic car?
I have one in the shop, and its been there for ~3 weeks now...........i think thats just a BIT long........

Auto Trannys Take Alittle time because, if you do it right, there are a lot of clearances to be checked, play, etc. Plus you have to get parts.

parts and availability of the parts are an issue, i wouldn't sweat it if they'll be done soon, if it takes 3 more weeks till it's done then that's a little much

yeah auto trannys do take some time. They have WAYY more shit internally than a manual. Which tranny was it? Like a turbo 350 should be too bad but something else like say (shits and giggles) a 6 speed auto new ford one would.

Well, just what im wondering is, 3 weeks for an auto trans is an ''average'' amount of time?? About how long should the TOTAL amount of time be? maybe a month, or ~5 weeks?

depends on the shop, the tranny, parts availibilty ETC...If you take a 6 speed auto to a busy shop, it will take awhile (compared to a 350 or a c4)
there no real average of time though. Did they give you a ballpark estimate?
are u taking the entire thing apart or just going through the valve body? if ur going through the whole thing make sure u do it in a clean ass place and DONT forget to put back all the little seals. just take ur time with everything and dont lose anything and ull be fine
