I have a b18a bottom end and a b18b head i was wondering what type of stuff should i use some people say intake manifold and throttle bodies and stuff wont really give u big horsepower gain so i decided to come o import atlanta and see what yall think also hit me up if u got any parts forsale i was also wondering what kind of pistons are good for a ls

so you wanna get more power out of your ls.................................

as far as pistons go, if you want to go n/a, you should use pr3 (usdm b16 pistons) which just so happens that I have a brand new set for sale of. If you want to slap a turbo on, then you will need low compression pistons which are already in the ls.

Honestly man, by the time you spend all that money on trying to build an ls, you could have either gone ls/vtec or boost. Don't get me wrong, there are people who swear by the all motor ls, it's just a lot harder to get power out of a non-vtec engine as far as money goes.

If you really want to stay straight ls, you should do some head work. First you should max out on bolt ons; ya know: header, intake, exhaust. Then maybe get some cams, aftermarrket springs and retainers, possibly a port job...After that, you could build the bottom end with forged rods and pistons......................

Fuck it, just go ls/vtec!:goodjob:
1. Get a b16 or gsr head
2. Get a golden eagle ls/vtec kit
3. Read, read, and read some more about how to build a reliable ls/vtec
4. Get a shop to do ANYTHING your not 100% sure about.
5. Enjoy the wrath of VTEC!!!

I heard alot of people saying ls/vtec is a bitch they say its not realiable at all so i was just going to build the ls since they say non vtec motors have more torque

hp/$ boost it.

if you need to have vtec then do a ls/vtec and boost it. ls/vtec are just as reliable as b18c1 if you do it right and treat it right.

Yup, my LS/VTEC has never given me any problems.

Yup, my LS/VTEC has never given me any problems. did u build it or who built it for you and what stuff you used also what are the numbers looking like for ls/vtec i wanna do all motor so boost is out of the question at the time really dont like the whole boost thing i like all motor

there is a write-up on how to build a reliable ls/vtec. if you do it right, it's equivalent to a oem gsr as far as reliability goes! :goodjob:

DFE built my motor, a company in FL and Mainstream assembled the head onto the block & into my car. Motor has CP (10.5:1) Pistons, Eagle Rods, LS crank, balanced & blueprinted. Makes 175 WHP/128 TQ

cuz like now i realli jus wanted to build the ls but i never thought about ls/vtec cuz somemany ppl were talking about how many problems they have with them i think they just throw b16 head onto ls block and roll but how much did it run you to build that set up and are your redlines right there with other vtec motors

mainstream can build you a reliable ls/vtec. they do almost all their motors in house now.

the reason so many people have issues is because they just slap it together and cut corners and then run a stock ecu on it. since there isn't a stock ls/vtec there isn't a stock ecu for it. have mainstream build it and i'll tune it and you'll ride out proper.

i've got a brand new cometic head gasket for your motor if you need one

Vtec is awesome, and my car has a B18C in it, but go with your gut instinct and build the LS motor. Less people have them, and if you do it right, you'll stand out and it'll still be awesome. Think of it as a fwd ae86...kinda

RAGE headers, ITB's... those will give you alot of power

itbs cost like hell i think like 2000$ rite for that i would jus buy a gsr an put stuff on but i think imma get me some headers and intake manifold

yeah cause an LS head can flow enough air to make mad power with ITBs :blah:

An btw, its HEADER, singular, these aint v8s man.

ITBs DONT ADD PEAK HORSEPOWER, they add MIDRANGE.

well i was going to build my LS
but i've decided to use all the money as a down payment on an s2000
i will still build it though
my plans were...
stg 3 crower cams
stg 2 port and polish
5 angle valve job
crower springs and retainers
crower cam gears
then later i was gonna do the bottom end

bump how much will headers add some ppl say dont get headers or intake manifold cuz you wont realli get a power gain i heard valvetrain is where its at

The header will have a very minor gain until your motor is pushing out more spent exhaust gases than can be accomodated by the stock ones.

The intake manifold will help more with throttle response than HP gains. A Bigger/Better designed intake manifold leads to moving more air from the intake manifold/intake into the combustion chambers at a higher velocity.
