View Full Version : My New Bike
Brett

Last week I went out and bought a 2006 R6 50th anniversary edition. Only has 1200 miles on it and is in MINT condition, not a scratch on her. I know have 1600 miles on it since I bought it Wednesday night..lol
Anyways, I loved the look of it but the fact they only made 150 of these and it being such a rare item on the street, I couldnt pass it up.
Last bike I had was 9 years ago when I had a Ninja and I have had the itch in me ever since. I cant get over how happy this bike has made me the past few days, I didnt realize how much I missed having a bike and just spending whole days riding with no place in mind to go, Just getting out there... and.. going
See some of you at the bike meet Wedensday night at Hooters im sure :)

Good choice. Way overkill, but you and QD are old enough to use some discretion with the throttle.
Quick question: Are you going to let QD hop on the back and ride bitch???:D

Brett
06-12-2007, 12:12 PM
I wasnt looking for a 1000, I am quite happy with this one and the limited editions are geared a tad different so everyone I know who has 1,000's who have gotten on this say its alot like one.

06-12-2007, 12:17 PM
Good call on the bike, very cool, and a 600 is all you really need. the civic is gone huh?! Wow, that was a fast transition....or was it?! Hmmmmm
Nightsrt4
06-12-2007, 12:17 PM
ROFL i doubt that =/ I am game to race my 600 for fun if you can beat me thats awesome and i think i did see you on your bike 2 weeks ago at Hooters for the end of the month meet.
Brett
06-12-2007, 12:30 PM

Greg... No it wasnt a fast transition and yeah the 600 is more than enough power for me for sure.

where did you see that they are geared diff. from my understanding there are just paint differences. but i could be wrong
Nightsrt4
06-12-2007, 12:39 PM
have you ever had a bike before this one? my 06 was my first bike like this so i wanted to go small and after a few months could only wish i would have gotten a much bigger bike =/ still alive so its not all that bad just slow in a straight line.
But i ride alot my 06 has 13k miles
Brett
06-12-2007, 12:47 PM

I could be wrong, But from what I hear this bike is a tad different, Like I have a USB cord and CD that I can plug into the laptop to adjust settings of the bike, Titanium head I think, and other things... But I am not all knowing, I am just getting back into bikes so I dunno for sure.
yeah 9 years ago I had a Ninja 600 and I loved that bike, so I knew this would be good for me and one I doubt Id outgrow.
Nightsrt4
06-12-2007, 01:07 PM
I bet this 600 feels alot faster Fuel Injection is nice to. I didn' t your bike came w/ a Power Commander like Bucky. I still want to see how fast your bike is if you dont mind racing. I like going fast straight i was pricing out a new zx-14 as soon as i can pay it off to many bills atm =/ 600 feels to slow up top o well nice bike though hope you enjoy it for a long time...
Brett
06-12-2007, 01:39 PM
Yeah mine I know has the power commander
nice bike, be safe out there man...regardless of if you're just running to the corner for a lotto ticket or turning a block, gear up :goodjob:
Brett
06-12-2007, 02:38 PM
Thanks man :)
The BUCKY
06-12-2007, 03:11 PM
yea that bike is the same as all the new r6. it just has a power commander and exhaust. take a pic of your chain/sprocket setup. its prob been changed. the bike has a slipper clutch stock which is prob the best factory feature of that bike. when you really start riding it hard you will begin to appreciate it.
Nightsrt4
06-12-2007, 03:26 PM
Yeah my bike did not come w/ it kinda was scary at first droping the clutch at high rpms and the back tire shake....
The BUCKY
06-12-2007, 03:41 PM
yea i abuse the hell outta my slipper. i love it. i almost layed down the ducati the day i got it forgeting that it didnt have the slipper
Brett
06-12-2007, 04:25 PM
Yeah it shifts well and I have run it hard on shifts a few times and it has virtually no jerking to it at all
The BUCKY
06-12-2007, 04:37 PM
downshifting is where the slipper clutch comes in. slips enough to not let the rear wheel lock up while trying to match engine speed. basically makes the bike more stable on downshifting
Brett
06-12-2007, 05:10 PM
Gotcha, well it does a great job then cause I downshift pretty quick to :)
The BUCKY
06-12-2007, 05:12 PM
drop it into second at about 65 and you will love the clutch. i dont know if you remember you old bike, but i am sure if you did that on it you would be on the pavement
slipper clutches kick ass!!!! downshifting on the '06 750 was like butter.......

Beautiful R6. A little much for a first bike, but you seem to be in the right mindset. Dont ride out of your comfort level.
Good choice. Way overkill, but you and QD are old enough to use some discretion with the throttle.

Thanks man, I have a really good jacket and high end gloves so for now Im set :D
I would suggest some boots that will protect your ankle also. You'd be surprised how easy it is to snap an ankle on even a slow get off. Trust me. Broke both of mine at seperate times, one of them "splintered" in 2 places. That was fun.
Now I HAVE to run on a treadmill, because they give me excruciating pain if I run on a hard surface.
Edit: In case you're wondering, I came about this SN honestly. I was an idiot in my earlier riding years. I learned the hard way, and it was given to me by some friends. Been down more times than I can count.:(

But what you dont realize is that you probably saved your self some suffering and learned more by starting out small. Not only that, but if you had bought a 1000, then wrecked it like most newbies, you would more than likely have been discouraged to ride ever again..........like most newbies that go down hard. Its human nature to want more as soon as you get the feel of what you got, but there's a lot more to learn about riding (especially in traffic) than just bike control.
You made the right choice. Now that you've got some good seat time, sell it and buy what you want. Bikes hold thier value great.

06-16-2007, 07:47 AM
Yea I learned alot on my 750. Like how to stop myself hydroplannin, or how to get out a messey situation quickly, just got to know my bikes limits.
