swapping dashes

about to swap my dash on my gsr. what do i do with the vin? is there any way to switch them? any tips and advice is great. :goodjob:

drill out the rivets on both dashes and rivet yours in the new dash

would it matter if i just popped off the new vin and left it blank? is it illlegal?
