Today was the most fun event I have been to yet. There were 37 entries with cars from all over the southeast. The competition was intense and some of IA's own did very well.
Congradulations to Turbo Dave and Me:D for making top 16 (I came with a strong #15 finish and faced Marco in the first round ha ha )
Tracy was locked in a made top 8!!
Dan flat out burnt the track up taking 3rd
and our very own Frohawk(sp? sorry bro) took home top honors with about 6 runs in a row where he basically kissed the #2 clipping point.
I have some pics ill post in a bit but I was there from 6 untill now so Im off to cook like 3 packs of ramen ( yea thats right I live the 86 lifestyle, if you dont know what it is then you dont live it)

It was a lot of fun. Some very good drifting all day long. Tracy and Dan both were tearing it up. Tracy, you have gotten a lot better than the last time I watched you at a DF event, good job girl. Dave did pretty damn good in the 2JZ S13, I could tell he even surprised himself. A little more experience and I think the debate about the cars doing well in drifting will be put to rest. Ron, you didn't do half bad either for your first event, getting into the top 16 is doing pretty good. Frohock was rocking the miata all day and did very well in the end. Thanks to everyone that showed up, those who didn't missed some excellent battles.

Hey guys, just got home... im fucking worn out!!!!
The day started pretty rough for me. My wheels hitched a ride down with Marcos, but due to technical problems he didnt even leave untillate in the morning. So by the time he got there and i got them on my car, i had already missed my first run group. Well i finally got out there and made my first 3 runs..... and they were shitty. Then someone said my front tire looked low. Not only was it low, BOTH were flat!! OUCH!!! So i threw some air in there are went back to attacking the track. I was mad, so i went for blood and it turned out to bite me in the ass, i was just not connecting with the car and the track. Then it happened, i got it down. Then I took Jenn out for a few runs and i just got more dialed in.
Well Top 16 came and i was pretty confident about getting in on that. But i was suprised when it came down to the competition for the Top 8 when i had to run Sammy from Tiger racing. This was definatly a intimidating, since i had been pitted against him before at Drift Fury and beaten out. Hes such a great driver and a super cool guy too. But i managed to just eek him out to secure a spot in the Top 8. Once the Top 8 were chosen, i was paired up with Mr Andy Sapp. Oh wow this was goign to get intresting. After our 'solo-tandem' runs, it was soooooo clsoe that we actually had to go ONE MORE TIME!!! Appearantly it was really that close. After out OMT, i was given the advantage on one factor, on my run, i lifted less adn was in the throttle more. This led to me getting paired with Dam from BG to decide who goes to the 1-2 battle and who goes to the 3-4 battle. Dan was definatly on FIRE!! He was consistantly destroying the course and getting withing inches of the outer clipping point. Since Dan qualified higherm he chose that i ran first. When i did, i hit the outer clipping point with my pass. side wheel and giving me a 0 point run. But on Dan's first run, he spun leaving a 0-0 score and one run each for us to decide who went on to battle for 1st and 2nd. With our runs, out of the way, it was decided that i would move on to the 1-2 battle (dont know what the deciding factor was though). For the 1-2 battle, i was paired up with a very good driver by the name of Sean Morgan. During practice, i hadn't really gotten a chance to watch him, but when the Top 16 went, i look at him as a formitable opponant for sure! As everyone was running, i talked to Sean quite a bit, cool cool guy and down to earth. He could barely believe that he had made it as far as he had. So when it was announced that me and him would run for the 1-2, we were both suprised and happy. Well, the battle for 1-2 started with a 6-4 score with Sean having the advantage because i understeered a bit goign to the 3rd clipping point. But for my 2nd run, i ran a nice solid line and didnt loose my drift. Unfortunatly, Sean straightened and understeered a little too much.
The event was straight up AWESOME!! I had a blast once i got in my zone. Thanks to CCR, The SCCA and all other sponsors!! It was cool to see some fellow IA'ers out there like Ron, RJS325ITS (Rafa??), Austin (Kalifornia), Nhan Ho, and Turbo Dave. All you guys did a GREAT job and i hope to see you out in future events honing your skillllzzzzz :goodjob:
Im sure im forgetting some stuff, but its about time for bed !!!!!!

that was a fun event. my best runs were during the first practice session. after that i was having trouble maintaining the line I wanted. somehow I still made it into the top 16 and was paired against Dan from BG and well, my stock 240 and me having trouble with my line all day against his s14 wasnt much of a contest. it was still a lot of fun tho. hopefully Ill have more power next time.

That was pretty fun. Some of the closest competition I've seen and a really well done event. So many of the drivers were just tearing up that track.
I'm taking some SPF 60 suncreen next time though

I had a good time. It was nice to relax at a drift event for once. The driving of everyone got really good throughout the day, so that was awesome. I think there is lots of room for improvement on organization and such, but that will come with time. I made it to top 8, so that was exciting. I think there was a bad call on the Andy and Mike race. Andy definately had the first run when it was scored 7 to 3 with the advantage to Mike and that would have given the race to Andy, but that's drifting...it's judged and that is someone's opinion on whose run was better. I won't speak on the run against Dan and Mike because that's another opinion on judging and I'm not the judge :) I also think the ladder after top 16 was done wrong. Dan shouldn't have run against Marcos in the top 8. That was backwards. He should have run against the lowest qualifier, not the #2 qualifier and so on...unless y'all just do your ladder different. In that case, then my bad.
But like I said, overall I had a good time. It was fun to see everyone!!! Thanks for having us.

thanks guys, and tracy we understand, this was our first event, and a major learning experience for all of us, i really appreciate the support all the drivers had for us
I honestly do not envy the judges jobs, they had to make some pretty tough calls, that battle between Andy and Frohock was intence, prob the best battle all day, i think Chris and David did an awesome job judging, if the bracket system we use has to be looked at, we will do that, thats why this is a pilot program, its a learning experience
again, thank you guys alot for coming down and enjoying this series with us!!!!

The judging overall was pretty fair. However Dan's really high qualifying score came on a run where he nailed the clipping point with a lot more than his back bumper so I guess it sort of worked itself out. Other people also hit the clipping point a little to hard. Not to mention that in one of Andy's qualifying runs he definately was going to spin out in the ending box but made it look like a doughnut. It was clearly stated that a spin even at the end would result in a zero, however he was give like a 95. I think that the judges gave consideration to the cars drifting in the matchups. Mike had to drive his >200 whp miata balls to the wall to do what Batlegrounds 240's are capable of. It the same when hachis win in professional drifting. If its close they get the go ahead because hey is a 150 whp 20 year old car. Cant say how much I enjoyed the event and the people. I cant wait until the next event.

I thought the judging was fair overall. I felt the same way about the hitting cones thing but I didn't want to put the way we run our events on them. That's how they do it, so that's how they do it. As long as it's consistent for everyone who hit the clipping point, which I felt it was.
I never agree with the hachi/miata HP pitty points. It's the same way I felt in drag racing...you choose your platform so you can be competitive in your class. People in the pro street tire class used to always bitch about certain rules because the Supra's always won that class. IMO, if you know the Supras are faster, then don't choose a Honda for that class. The 240's don't get any pitty points against V8's because they have less torque. I also think that's why some of the girls drive hachis...for the HP pitty points. Besides the speed issue, the miatas get a lot less angle...they always look like they are driving damn near straight IMO. Andy runs with almost stock HP but no one ever believes it cuz he drives the shit out of the car.
So one funny thing happened at the event. When Dan spun out against Mike, his throttle was sticking. Well I had to drive Dan's car in the comp (as you know)...I knew throttle was sticking, but I forgot to tell Dan. Whoops! he was mad cuz he could have fixed it before his run. Oh well. I used being a woman as an excuse :D that one always works.
Either way, like I said...it was a fun event with room for improvemenet. It will get better with time and experience. I, of all people, know how hard it is to run a drift event...so I am definately not hating. I'm just chiming in with my comments as a driver in the event. I was super stoked to qualify 10th and then make it into the top 8. That was my first top 8 in a competition (I've only done 3 now but still).

it was a great event and yea there still some issuse with the spin out and all.
It over all a great event and willing to go to the next one in GA. The pros were better then the cons and hey its still in the beginning stages so there is going to be issues.
Over all I think the next event will have more people and hopefully less people will spin out and make the competition even better.

Yes I will definately be at the next event. I can understand being stoked this was my first event and like my second attempt at drifting so to make the top 16 was almost too much for me. Tracy let me know about the next drift fury event because I think its better if all venues of drifting support each other and I would like to enter. BTW im building a hachi roku right now so that I wont have to beat my daily and for the pitty points ha ha ha. Not really for the pitty points I just think 86's are the balls when it comes to OG rides.

I had a great time and am looking forward to going to more events.
I did, however, want to make comment about the clipping points, I think that It would be a good idea to put distance markers in front of the clipping points.(i.e. every foot 1ft,2ft, etc) to get a better "accurate" score. I mean instead of "hitting" the clipping It would seem to me that this would help the judges associate some sort of score with the run. Oh yeah and move the judges closer to the action. Just my :2cents:

Very true. I think that coming as close as you can to the clipping point without hitting it should be rewarded more than actually hitting it. And the judges should be closer but what can you do when you are limited by the venue.
