View Full Version : 99 Prelude having problems with clutch pedal sticking...

Okay. My buddy has a 99 prelude. His clutch had been giving him problems for about two weeks. He would get in the car after not using it for a couple hours/overnight, whatever... And there would be little/no pressure to the pedal. He would have to pump it several times to get pressure to start the car and drive it.

Well, last week, he got in the car, and pushed the pedal down, it stuck as usual, but after pumping it about 200+ times, it never regained pressure.

Now, we replaced his master AND slave clutch cylinders.

And we've bled the line. But, the problem is, we've heard/read several ways to bleed the clutch.

We tried opening the bleeding nut, pressing clutch down, closing the nut, then pulling the pedal back up. We did that for about a bottle and a half of fluid. Never recieved pressure.

What I'm trying to figure out is if we're bleeding it currectly. And about how long it should be taking us. Or, if it could be something other than having to bleed it at this point.

After opening the nut, pressing clutch down, closing nut, then pulling it back up... how long do we do this? Should the clutch eventually start building pressure? Or do we do it until we get a steady stream of fluid coming out of the hole where we bleed it, then close it, and just pump the clutch for a couple minutes to get pressure?

Any idea's, thoughts, anything...?

Did you check for leak? You do it till the fluid comes out without any bubbles.

Is it coming out like there's air in the line? Is it losing fluid in the reservoir, if so where is it going?

its goin out and i dont remember seeing any bubbles..... is it supposed to start building pressure slowly?

You should have pressure once the air is all out and if there is no leak anywhere.

If there is enough air in the line for the pedal to go to the floor and stick then it should be coming out erratically/inconsistantly (what's the word i'm looking for???) when being bleed...

Was it a new master cylinder? Only brake fluid put in there? Not power steering fluid or anything? It sounds like there's a bad seal in it but hard to tell from just being online.

could it be a resultant of the adjustment needed on that pedal with the new clutch master cylinder?

IMO there is still air in those lines

all new parts....... about how much brake fluid should be used during this bleedin process..... once you push it to the floor it just sticks there is no pressure at all to come back up......

let it get down to bout 25%.......then would refill it.....usd almost 2 bottles....

Ok I had the same problem with my prelude when i changed out the bad slave cylinder.. Easy way to get it fixed is to go get a pressurized brake system fluid changer....or what you have to do is:

Have some one in the car
and some one right next to the slave cylinder with bleeding tool

ok steps:

Push pedal down
now open the bleeder screw
push the fork back torwards the slave cylinder till it stops
now close the bleeder screw
now SLOWLY release the pedal(if its stuck on the floor, then SLOWLY pull the pedal back up by hand)


repeat steps till u get the pressure back
do that and keep checking fluid level

thats how i did mines the first time and then i used a pressurized fluid changer next time on another car to save time
