View Full Version : I think I have lost all interest in the car "scene"

As time has gone by I have just become less and less involved. On a regular basis I drive a 94 accord with hail damage and no a/c, and it doesnt bother me. I have 4 other vehicles in my driveway/garage that I could use for show/race and I never even touch them. I just don't see it being worth the time, effort or money anymore. It is EXPENSIVE to build a nice car, and the more you do to it, the more you have to do to it, and the less reliable it comes. It is a never ending money pit. I would rather invest the money into making more money, buying a house, funding other hobbies etcetc. Oh well, just thought I would let that out.

BUT A true car person will still be into it regardless. I am getting older ( Okay MUCH older ) but I still love it as much as I did when I started, Yes it takes money from other things, but we all knew this the day we started this game.

I use to hate when people asked me that because it made me think about it, hah. IMO you don't have to spend 30k on a Honda to be considered a car enthusiest. I'm willing to be that 80%+ people who drive nice sports cars are very much into their car.

I understand how you feel Chris. Sometimes I wanna stop doing it but I LOVE to drive. I'm gonna always fix up what ever car I have. Even if it's just a set of wheel & tires I'm gonna do something to it. I'm getting older so when I'm done with the 240 I'm gonna move up to something a little more my age. Maybe a g35, bmw, audi, or a Lexus. But I love the way a car handles after you mod them so I will probably be the old guy that still has rims on his Benz or something.

My mother came back with a childish, but still funny rebuttle: "Atleast he's not wasting his money on drugs, and at the bar like ALL of your children, he has something to show for the money he's spent on it" :lmfao:. i've learned all hobbies are money pits its just learning to deal w/ the loss of $$$... i used to play paintball every weekend spending 100-150$ a week to play, i figured shit that is same as a car payment or chunk of a house payment, sure enough i bought a house and a new car and stopped playing paintball. its all in priorities... i'm building my 4th car now; time to have fun and shell out a whole lot of $$$ for nothing but pure enjoyment :D

I said, theres one more thing I need to do.. took the car completly apart.. From a show car to a disaster in a few hours... Spend about another 6'xxgs with swap/paint/Seats/motor and other misc parts here in there and the car was done.. I was literally hitting the track almost every friday night abusing the hatch.. to me 20 bucks at the track was WAY better then 20 at a show. I drove my buddys 92 civic w/ a swap, i said fuck this.. It definitely is a money pit, no doubt about that.

But more importantly, it's a passion. I mean, if we work everyday, and do the normal 9-5, what fun would that be? I mean, sure everybody has their niche, whether it be cars, houses, gay porn, etc and everybody will get discouraged once in a while, but it's that's a part of the territory. I bitch about my pieces of shit all the time and then I realize what it could be.

The idea of what it could be fuels my passion.

Having a family only slows down the mods you get. Trust me I have a family now and I thought I 'd never get my car ready but slowly I did it just took me longer to save up for the things I wanted, instead of blowing it and eating PB&J for the rest of the month.

Yeah when we get older and have REAL bills and kids and wives it slows down what we want to do, I know one day my civic will be where I want it, It has taken me 5 years to get this far and if it takes me 5 more I WILL GET IT WHERE I WANT IT!! lol

But we find a way to do new things when we can, and thats fine with me

Yea its the way it goes, you spend money on your car to make it better, drive it harder then it breaks. I have a completely rebuilt engine in my car truck did some suspension mods and drove it harder and harder, now its broke. After dumping all my money in it, still not fixing the problem now im broke-lol. My job required me to use my car so now im out of a job and a car. Eh Im not mad, i figured it would break sooner or later, it was inevitable. So now im on the prowl for a new job and an EF. Am i mad? No. Do i plan on never modifying a car again? No. Its a money pit but its fun, and once you have other obligations just make the pit for you car smaller to keep it under control.

honestly, i find lots of enjoyment in both building and driving my car. i am an engineer at heart, i enjoy working out problems and coming up with new ideas to work with. but that test run after some new goodies is the payoff. all of the events i've driven in i've had a blast even though at most of them i've spent more time tweaking the car than drifting it. it's an expensive hobby, especially when event entries are $75+, then add tires, gas, hotels for out of town events, it's almost insane the amount of money spent on doing one event. but i love to do it and that's not going to change any time soon.

Just to clear something up, I have not at all lost my interest in cars, just the whole "scene" shit. I lost my interest in shows and drag. I would love to have a close to stock car that had balls and handled well that I could take to road atlanta 2 or 3 times a year and have a great time giving it hell (without having to worry about it tearing up because the motor has been taken apart many times). Just like Corey/CMO, I do love to drive. It was always very rewarding to mod a car. But when you get deep into the motor work, it just gets too expensive to be worth it. Especially on a car that is only worth 3 or 4k.

I'm feelin kinda the same way. I'm not really tired of cars but i have other things i need to start saving my money for (house, furniture, etc.). I'm trying to sell my rice box now and my next car will probably just have wheels, exhaust, springs, ICE, and then i'm done. But of course i said the same thing when i got my EG. 4 months later it was a rice machine. Right now i'm trying to finish my Swift but each time i add something i think of another thing. Its like a chain reaction. If you upgrade your block, you need to upgrade your tranny. Things like that. So i guess only time will tell. I'm kinda addicted to this mess.

i stopped pouring $ into my moneypit a while back and sold it off piece by piece (hardest thing I have ever done I think). I did it for a BIG reason though, responsibility for my family. They come first in my life, not a fucking car. Does that mean I will never get back into it again, hell no. I will always have some sort of project going I'm sure but my motives have changed now. Never again will I mold an entire car, sure it looks pretty but damn it always breaks & is too unreliable. turbos, superchargers, etc will be the only route I take probably in the future. If you are tired of it stop bitching about it and just stop for a while. You can always go back into it later.....
