i personally think when tv shows and shit refer to sport compact people as the "tuner" crowd or tuners that it sounds fucking retarded, i always have. I do not ever think of myself in that sense. No matter what car you mod, you are an automotive enthusiast, a Sport compact enthusiast, or a car builder, ANYTHING but a god damn TUNER!!! I like tuner fest, BUT I HATE THE NAME!!! Its like a racial slur to me.

Back in 1987, I lowered my first car. It was a 1980 Datsun 210. Someone saw my car and loved how it sat. We started shaving the door handles off and shit.

And it was good.

I got to noticing how people who worked at tune up shops or mechanics that did tune ups were tuning cars to have them run better/at stock level. A friend of mine and I actually got to figuring out ways to get them to run at better than stock levels. Through various tuning works, we squeezed out a little more horsepower.

And it was good.

Now, at this point, we started considering ourselves as "real" tuning people. That's where I came up with the word "tuner." We were real "tuners." We started using that word everywhere we went and soon, just like today's "Yeah!", the word was in heavy rotation.

And it was good.

Years went by with the word hanging around and people using it sparingly but with good taste in mind and made it's mark in the English vocabulary.

And it was good.

In 2001, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel and a host of other "actors" picked up a dialogue book and started filming a movie that would forever change the look upon the import/racing/modded car scene. This movie brought APC into the limelight. It brought Pep Boys out into the tuning car heaven that it is today. It turned every 15-18 year old boy into the "tuners" they are today.

And it was not so good ever again.

i was ok with "NOS" in the movie for N.OS. cause it made sense, but then everyone started referring to NOS when it came to ANY TYPE OF NITROUS SYSTEM AVAILABLE or the gas in general. I fly off the handle when someone asks me i got nos on my civic...im like, "WHAT THE FUCK IS NOS"
