ok....story goes like this, 2 weeks ago my dad was working on a push mower, not sure why as they have a rider thats less than a year old, he backed up away from the mower while running, into a tree, and slipped in the pine straw surrounding the tree and the following carnage ensued after his foot was basically sucked into the mower.....when i arrived at the emergency room i was able to go back to the trauma area w/ him knowing some of the staff up there, and seeing his toe litterally hanging on by skin was not a good sight...along w/ the serious gashes....the doctors estimated he was hit by the blade atleast 5 times...the accident happened around 8pm, and he had surgery at 330 in the morning...he lost a toe and i think the total on stitches was someone in the area of 30

seriously....close this thread if you are weak stomached....in all honesty, to me though, after seeing his toe hanging on by skin and gashes in his ankle and all 2 weeks ago this isnt that bad, the black spots are actually scabs, and the rest is stitches at the toe area, the other two spots had the stitches removed earlier this week

Damn dude that sucks. It's a good thing it barely did damage. I heard from people that if your big toe is gone you can't balance on that foot anymore. Don't know if it's true though.

that's why gardeners ftw. Laziness at the best but at least you can save yourself from the carnage like above.

he did not have shoes on, in fact he wasnt even outside to mess w/ the mower, he went out to close his shop up and on his way walking back up to the house saw the mower sitting over to the side that he had been tinkering w/ and started messing w/ it to finish changing the carb or something, got it started, and this happened

the doctors that did his surgery said he would probably have to have physical therapy a couple times to learn how to walk, and that walking would be a lot different, but that it can be done w/ out the use of any aids

on a side note i have a nephew who was born w/ some birth defects and is missing the same toe....he walks and runs just fine....of course he learned to walk w.out the toe from birth....my dads close to 50 now
