every time i call them they put me on hold for more than 15 min so i just give up

i think verizons break contract fee is like $175, so it is cheaper to cancel but they will probably go after your credit and put u in a collection agency.

I work w/ verizon. Yeah the contract break would be $175 or less if your contract is close to being up. $400? Texting? Overage minutes?

thats not entirely true...with cell companys, its the cancellation fee ($150-200) AND the bill. So NO, paying a 150 cancellation or something wont solve your $400 bill.
