cracked windshield

hey guys, i have a 99 civic coupe that has a cracked windshield. I washed the car today and it spreaded, and i was wondering what would happen if the crack spreaded across the windshield to the other side. will i be safe knowing that the windshield won't collapse on me? a small pebble was a cause of it all... thanks guys

Sorry but this was funny. Ok seriously you are not suppose to put cold water on a hot windsheild it will do that. It will progressivly make it to the otherside as the weather changes outside. Caving in on you while driving i don't think is likley (sp) to happen.

The windshields on today's cars have like a coating or wrap on the glass, but you need to get that handled cause I think that Police write tickets for that.

Just get a new one, they're really not that expensive.

Yes, you can get a ticket, I think it's a percentage of the width of the glass, or a certain universal length.

windshield. (hell I don't know)lolol, temperature changes cause expansion and contraction of solids...think about the lines in concrete sidewalks or the expansion joints on bridges, they're there for a reason ;)

I've poured cool water from the faucet on icy windows for years without any problems, as long as it's warmer than 32°F it will melt the ice...never once had it crack or spread a bullseye. THEN I've seen a windshield on a friends vehicle crack from a chick putting her foot up on the dash and her toe touching the glass...i didn't think she was all that hot :tongue: middle of winter of course but still kinda freakish.

You can get a ticket for a cracked windshield and doesn't really matter the size of the crack.



Best thing to do is get a new one, they usually cost about $150 installed at your door.$150-180 or so, you don't want to have one installed that cost much less than that. There's a few companies that will do it for $125-150 but they use the old recycled molds from other manufacturers making it a thinner and lower quality window. :2cents:

i hate to bring this back from the dead but that car in the vid is the most awesome thing i have ever spent money on. clean title loaded out running driving ex coupe and we drank beer and destroyed it!! fun stuff..cant wait to get get another
