i am very highly considering selling ym civic and getting a 98 eclipce.. love the body style.. no the thing is i want a gsx but there is no way i can afford the insurance with my past drivign record.. now my question is how hard would it be to take a gs or rs and convert it to a gsx i mean swapping the motor and drivetrain.. the whole nine.. so....:thinking: :???:

just boost the motor already in it...buy a gsx if thats what you want....insurance=way cheaper than conversion

Best way to go is get a 2g body and drop in a 1G 4G63T engine. Then you are set.

stay away from RS if you can. . .
rs = (420A)chrystler engine/ tranny
gst is the way to go man less wieght and no leaky transfer case

its very expensive and very impractical to do that swap

[/thread]

what you can do is... get a RS and drop a 4g63T in it :)

Yeah i dont think it would be worth the money to do the conversion.. unless you could find a complete gsx shell for a good price. but most of the shells go for 2k and up..

If you were going to do it, it would be infinitely harder to do it to a non-turbo (GS,RS) 2G. It can be done and there are at least one or two write-ups on the net. They start off with GS-T, though. You will need to find an AWD parts car, too. Which will, of course, add even more to the cost of this.

Who needs insurance anyway?!

(Just kidding)

Just get a GSX already. Call around to a few different insurance companies and see what kind of rate you can get.

If you REAQLLY want turbo, then there is no reason to start out with a non-turbo car. DO NOT waste the time or money. You will save a LOT on the build...insurance on a turbo car will be less over the long haul....

Or, you can buy the car in a 6 months or so, and do some of the mods you want... that way, but time you are 21, the insurance will have dropped.

My opinion is to NOT get the non-turbo just to save a few $$$ now, you will spend a LOT more in the long run..

Trust when I was young and dumb, which was not that long ago.*thats crazy* Like i was saying, I tried to do this, it is very possible, but very expensive. I swapped in the 4g63 in a 91 tsi. I like it for a while, then i wanted awd. A couple thousand dollars later, i realized it wasn't worth it. I could have saved a lot of time and money if I just saved and bought a gsx or awd tsi, in the first place. Listen to everybody on this one. Its like the same as when doing a auto to manual, they never drive the same. Speaking from to much experience. Hope this helps.

if you do get one, have a good cash reserve for the transmission stuff.

i had a 97 gst and the parts to swap it to an aed is about 2k to 3k then you have labor and your motor will need to be built to hold any amount of power i used to turbo 420a on the side. I would just drive the car and save up for somethin else
