The Edge weighs 4528 lbs...way too much. Funny that it weighs about 600 - 700 pounds more than its platform-mate, the CX-7.

Anyway...According to Car and Driver:

Ford Edge SEL 0 - 60 mph = 7.6 seconds
BMW X-5 3.0i 0 - 60 mph = 7.8 seconds

So yes...it is quicker...but honestly, who cares?

Ford fell off...they've had far too many flops on the market (Thunderbird, Blackwood, Aviator, Marauder, Five Hundred) and their new Five Hundred/Taurus is hideous...I mean...did they want to sell fewer of those? They made a mistake with the Edge in making it so heavy too. People who buy vehicles like that want mileage too...and that will not deliver.

I guess they'll just have to rely on the Mustang and their F-Series trucks.

Not the first time a lesser company points out its better than a luxury car company at something.
While most of you drool over M5s, most drive 525s, which had only 189hp until last year where it got bumped to around 230hp last year.

While its nice to have a GS 430, most are GS 300s and a Altima V-6 is faster than that.

Most luxury car owners are not worried about 0-60, slalom figures etc. They want the image, the luxury and the car.

Know what really impressed me? Porsche's variable geometry turbo engine.

I didn't know about those previously...and when I found out, I thought they were the coolest damn things on the planet. I did a whole project on that engine for my Engineering II class.
