But analysts say Toyota is advancing precisely in those areas that General Motors Corp. has fallen behind, making it likely that Toyota will snatch from GM the title it has held for 76 years.

Toyota Motor Corp. sold 2.35 million vehicles worldwide in the January-March period, surpassing the 2.26 million vehicles GM sold in the quarter, according to preliminary figures.

With rising fuel costs and all, GM needs to put out decent brand sedans for the everyday driver. Their engineers must really be stupid because it seems every sedan they've put out either looks ugly (Malibu) or breaks down eventually (CTS). All they need are Japanese engineers to put them back on their feet again. I mean, Toyota used American engineers for the new Tundra and look how well the sales/marketing are going...

Its unfair to blame Toyotas lagging truck sales on american engineers. Toyota has always had trouble in the full size truck market. Japanese engineers are the ones who designed the T100, which was a complete failure.

Actually, when they used Japanese engineers we got awful trucks like the T100 (no V-8 option, too small) and the last Tundra (still underpowered, too small, bland styling).

I am glad they build and use Americans for the new Tundra, its doing well, they just priced it high.

I think you guys misinterpreted my statement (I was not trying to be sarcastic). I was actually trying to say that the new Tundras are better with the American engineers. I love the new direction Toyota is heading with its aggressive advertisements. I'm confident Toyota will become successful even more so than Ford/GM if it keeps it up. If American engineers can beef up the Tundra to be more powerful than the Detroit Auto trucks and sell that well, then I'm sure Japanese engineers could help out the American companies design better cars and sedans.

The way I read your statement it looked as if you were placing the blame on the Tundra's lagging sales on the fact that it was designed by American engineers.
