Starbucks Gives Away Free Ice Cream TODAY

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp., whose sales growth has slowed in recent months, said Tuesday it would give away free ice cream at more than 6,000 of its U.S. coffee shops Wednesday afternoon.

The company said in a statement it is trying to generate interest in the Starbucks brand of ice cream, which it has been selling in grocery stores since 1995 as part of a joint venture with Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Holdings Inc. (Research)

But the move is also sure to reel in customers who might buy one of the chain's signature frothy coffee drinks to enjoy with their free treat.

Company spokesman Nick Davis said there was no plan for the chain to begin selling ice cream at its outlets.

Starbucks, which has added a line of music CDs to its product offerings, has been working to boost sales at established coffee shops but set a high bar for itself last year with strong sales.

Starbucks (Research) stock has fallen 15 percent this year, in part because of investor concerns that its days of posting double-digit sales increases are over.

In recent months, several U.S. restaurant chains have given away food in an effort to boost customer traffic.

shit we dont have anything like that here...we have a coffee shop at the school that sells starbucks but its not the same...but we dont have a doughnut or bagel place here or anything...it sucks

they were actually giving it away! james and i went to the target on 124 and they are in the process of making it a super target and they put a starbucks in. when the two of us walked it - they handed us two things (they were the little itty bitty size) of it. it was pretty good - tasted just like frozen coffee - go figure. hehe

I don't support Starbucks anymore...I used to drink it all the time. I recently got an email that said (to the effect):
Recently, soldiers stationed in Iraq took the time out to send Starbucks a letter, telling the company how much they enjoyed their coffee...Starbucks then sent the troops a letter back stating...(in so many words) "we're glad you like our coffee, but we don't support the war." Even if they don't support the war, they could have at least sent them something, I mean they're still "our boys" and we need to support "them", they are fighting for our country for god's sake. So, at any rate, I do not support star bucks anymore...
