My friend is buying a 94 del sol. he has no intention of keeping the motor in it as of right now because it 1.) has a knock owner says its either a rocker arm or i think its probably a bent valve 2.)too many Miles 3.) he just doesnt like the D16 motor thats in it.
So here is what I'm looking for info on. He is looking to do an engine swap but as this will be his DD it needs to be reliable but he also wants something that will make a decent amount of power straight out of the box. the kid isnt that mechanincally inclined and i dont know what to tell him because i dont know much about hondas

B18C5? Kid had BETTER be making serious bank...
Just get an LS motor. Plenty of torque, good platform to build on.
Or be simple and go with a b16. Simple swap.
The "knock" you're hearing is probably valve slap. Just my guess. BTW, I'll take the motor off your hands whenever you're done, if you want :goodjob:

Oh! PS, I've got a fully functional garage. For a reasonable price, I'll help him install it, or do the complete install. Summer's coming, and I don't yet have a job. I wouldn't mind having a side job or two in the meantime. LMK. Would love to help, and I garuntee I'm more affordable than any shop. Just needing college money.

kids going into the army when he gets out of basic hes got $10-$20K signing bonus coming to him how much of that would it cost him to do the swap looked and the motors are anywhere between 2 and 5k

I'll run an estimate when I get back to the barracks tonight...it'll probably be around 1930hrs for me to post up what it'd run him (parts-wise).

That's probably close to what I can do it for. Like I said, I'll sit down tonight and look how much it would run for me to do it unless you're mindset on having mainstream do it.

with that much money coming in
if he's going boost but still wants something straight out of the box (b18c1) steer away from the b16 for their 'weaker' bottom ends
if he just wants to drop in a motor and go straight from there, with nothing else but mild boltons, go with a b18c5 or a h22a(whatever)
thats my opinion with the money he's going to be raking in

first question he needs to ask how much $ he has? cause if it's a bent rod a new head only cost under $100.
