I am curious about these mountain runs I've heard about. Whats are the best roads to drive and how far away from downtown are they?

Eh? This time of year it's really not worth it. Cops are all over the place, and so are the tourists. At least 1 1/2+ from downtown.

someone say mountain runs? :ninja:

1 1/2 hours north with a couple stops...Hwy. 60, 180, 129, 348 (Richard B. Russel), & 75. are the easiest loops. Basically all the roads connecting Dahlonega, Suches, Blairesville, & Helen. Run Sunday morning and sometimes throughout the day & later afternoon OR any day late at night, NO Saturdays. :2cents:

OR a couple hours north to Tail of the Dragon/Deals Gap...Graham County, NC www.tailofthedragon.com/

EDIT:
Just for shits & giggles... ;)
159.2100 - 155.9850 - 155.3400 - 154.2050 - 154.9350 - 155.5950

Tail of the Dragon owns all. We try to go 2 - 3 times a year.

mountain runs are the shit. I like Suches a lot, one of my favorite places to drive. But yeah, generally a weekday is best to go up there... weekends are packed and can get dangerous with all the bikers up there.

Fun road to drive and right now the cops are all over Blood Mnt aka White County/Union County Bc of all the Rocket riders that run others off the road.... but The tail is well worth the drive FOR SURE!!!There's multiple sides to that 1) If riders passed near the center it wouldn't be an issue 2) they can't because the person they're passing would flip their shit being within a few feet of them 3) If oncoming traffic didn't freak out....omg, it's a bike! 24+ foot wide road with two 6 foot wide cars and a 3' foot wide bike & rider. That leaves about 10 extra feet plus the width of the centerline! That's nearly 3 feet on either side of both cars...plenty of room but us Americans are too slow to handle something like that.

The major problem....obviously you'll have inexperienced riders from time to time but the last several tragic accidents i know about were tourist/locals stopping in the middle of the road or pulling out without looking. Of course speed will be an issue with a majority of accidents but i've had them pull out in front of me several times in a 7 foot tall land rover (full roof rack) and bright ass hella driving lights running full time. People don't pay attention...at all.

Please ensure your car is prepped and ready, its a lot of strain on the car and the driver.

I don't have any mountains, but I got a pretty twisty 12 mile piece of empty road about 15mins from my house. :D

lol, I'm in Canton so I'm sure it's closer than Helen for you. If I head back there sometime soon, I'll PM you. It's no mountain and not as good as the Dragon, but for how close it is to me, it's a good road to unwind on and there is usually no traffic. Also, since it's such a backwoods road, there aren't any cops. Ever.
