View Full Version : Fuck you State Of Georgia

In January my girlfriend and I got a car. My name is the main name on the paperwork becuase my credit is better that hers but she makes the payments and drives the brand new car most of the time. At the end of January after two paper tags I finally got my real license plate. I put it on the car, not paying attention to the little sticker and forget about it.

Today I get a pissed off call from my girlfriend who just got a ticket for expired tags, they expired on my birthday March 13th. SIX FUCKING WEEKS AFTER I GOT THE BRAND NEW TAG!!! What the fuck is that bullshit. She even told the cop (Cobb County) she had just bought the car and did not realize they had expired but would get them renewed tomorrow. He said here is you ticket.

I know that driving with expired tags is Illegal and it is my fault for not paying attention to the tag on my car, I figured would be valid for a fucking year. So I get to pay for tags twice in 1 year..FUCK YOU!! Oh and we never got a notice in the mail saying "your tags are almost expired" like everyone else in this state does.

Anyway I am going to court for it with her to explain to the judge what happened so maybe they will let us go.

Does anyone know what kind of fine it can be, are there any points involved, and can it effect her insurance? If so I am going to try and get the judge to atleast give me the points since my name is primary on the title and it is somewhat my responsibility.

grow up, everyone here has to pay twice in the first year of owning a car

and why the fuck do you need a reminder that your tags are about to expire? do you forget when your birthday is?

You should have left the whole post right there. The county Tax Commissioner's office does not send out "almost expired" notices to people. They send out the tag/registration slips out about a month or so before your time to renew. Later, QD.

It is hard to get one of those when they give you the new tag a little more than a month before it expires.

Then technically they do give you a warning ahead of time lol.

PA is the same way. A month or so before you registration runs out you get a thing in the mail, send it back with 50 bucks and about the time your sticker runs out, your new one comes in the mail.

Oh well thats fun. Hopefully I can talk to the judge on the court date and talk him/her down a little bit. She is getting the tag renewed tomorrow, the day after she got the ticket. I also still have the first paper tag and the second one they had to give me because it took so long to get me real tag. Maybe they will just call me a dumbass a few times and let me go, like the other time I had to go to court.

I have PA tags as well. I'm keeping them though. My car is in my dads name and shit. It's staying in it. I have, his, mine, and my grandmothers insurance paid up for the next year and a half or so lol. I had a really good job in PA lol When the company slowed, lay-offs started. :( lol. O'well

Thats what I had meant about your reminder. Then that comes in, that means they're running out lol.

Koukis14 - You did kind of get boned on your tag. It happens though. Deal with it, just make sure it don't happen again lol. Thats really your only option.

I believe if you buy a vehicle and register it WITHIN 30 days BEFORE your birthday you do not have to renew the tag until your next birthday. Also, I switched cars within 30 days of my birthday and didn't have to pay ad valorem on either car. I'm not sure about the exact law on this matter, but I'd just go to the DMV site and read the articles. Since you are from PA, it would be beneficial for you to learn the laws of GA. A police officer will always tell you ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. Learn the laws and you will not make the same mistake in the future. Also, it is not a point violation. You may be able to get the ticket reduced/dismissed by providing proof that you renewed your tag. Yes, it sucks. Worse things can happen though. Good luck on the issue.

When you buy a new or used car in GA.. you have to pay for the 1st tag.. is usually around 20 to 30 bucks. Since you are not paying for a full year. Then, you get the new notice 1 or 2 month before your birthday to pay the BIG AMOUNT.

If you buy the car withing 1 or 2 month before your b-day, you pay might as well pay the full thing.....

So im not sure why you are complaining....

No, no you don't. If you buy a vehicle right before your birthday, you don't have to pay Ad Valorem tax for that year (I believe that this can be private or public, but I'll have to check on that to make sure since my last few purchases have been private).

Yes, there is a "30 day" trick to buying a vehicle new your birthday that will exempt you from the Ad Valorem tax for that year.

Jehu

Buying w/in 30 days doesn't exempt you as you pay it when you buy the car.

Just bring the new tag w/ you and if he/she is having a good day, they'll just have you pay court fees. At most it's the ~150 like people have said.
