Description:
My 1992 Honda Prelude was totaled earlier this week. I rear-ended a 4Runner, and the front bumper, headlights, hood, radiator, and rad. support are all donezo. The car has ~140,000 miles on it, and I have owned it about 7 years now. Milano Red exterior, black cloth interior. It was exceptionally well cared for, and I know these cars inside and out (I've been a 4th gen mod on preludeonline.com for several years).

I have not yet received a quote from insurance for what they will offer for the car, BUT I am 90% sure it is going to be in my best interest to part the vehicle out. All of these are currently ON THE VEHICLE, which is located in the metro Atlanta area. I would primarily like to deal with local buyers to avoid shipping at this time. I will post a cell-phone camera picture from the accident scene at the moment, and add additional photos shortly of specific items.

IF SOMEONE IS INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE, PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA EMAIL.

JDM H22a Engine Swap:
*Block code currently unknown, as the car is at a shop. Will get it and post ASAP. I have paperwork from when engine arrived, and pictures of everything on the pallet from shipping 5 years ago.

I replaced the original F22 engine with a JDM H22a (and trans) from Osaka Motors in the winter of 2002. In August of 2006, the engine had the head rebuilt, new timing belt, new water pump, new gaskets, and a host of other odds and ends done at he same time. I have all receipts for the recent engine work, and original paperwork included with the engine.

The installation was well-documented, and actually used for a write-up that has been re-posted across the web and been used as a guide for countless other swaps. Engine is still in car and runs, compression check available, although it was just dandy last time I checked. If someone is hunting for an engine swap, this is 100% complete: engine, trans, ECU, nearly new Raxles driveshafts, wiring, etc.

I honestly haven't followed the prices of H22 swaps in recent months/years, and don't know the current market value for something like this. I'll throw a price of $1800 out there to begin with (if this is out of line, low or high, with the current market please feel free to chime in). Willing to negotiate further with someone who is willing to come pull it on their own (I'll help, but don't own a hoist).

5 Lug Conversion, Suspension
In August of 2005, I did a 5-lug conversion using parts from a 5th generation Prelude (knucles, hubs, calipers). All wheel bearings were replaced at that time, and new rotors were used in the upgrade. Finding a COMPLETE 5 lug swap is difficult, I'll even give you a 5-lug spare. Wheels are stock 5th generation Prelude wheels, wrapped with 8 month old BFG G-Force Sports (willing to separate from swap). I'll throw $500 out there, $700 if you want the wheels/tires as well. Again, I'd be very much willing to negotiate with someone willing to pull the parts.

Suspension was recently freshened up by adding GR2 replacement shocks with stock springs. Don't need your stock units, as i still have mine; take them all assembled and skip using a spring compressor. $150?

Exterior Items:
Apart from the lug conversion, the only exterior modification was the addition of an Accord rear lip. I also have an Accord front lip that is still in the Honda box and has never been used, and a set of OEM foglights/switch that are not installed.

All Glass is good. Mirrors have fading paint, and there is a crack in the spoiler.

Interior Items:
Interior has a 94+ console conversion with cup-holder, although the lid was recently broken. Otherwise stock. Interior is in great shape, especially considering the vehicles age (15 years old).

Other parts currently not on the car that are available:
- Glass Sunroof (from 5th generation Prelude).
- 94 Prelude Helms Manual (covers VTEC models)
- Bunch of original ads and articles about the 4th generation Preludes.

That's all I can think of at the moment, will update with more info/pics as they become available.

Well the going rate for an h22 right is around 1200-1400. Just to help. How many miles is on the motor? I might be able to get that from you. I got a thousand in the bank now. Was the head rebuilt with upgraded parts (cams, valvetrain) or oem parts?

a high mileage h22's resale value is around the 1000-1200 dollar range, give or take a hundred dollars.

Not saying this is super high mileage, but most swaps come from japan with between 35k and 50k miles. Given that you have had the swap in for 4 years, i'm sure you've added a good 50k-60k miles to it if not more and that would take it out of the classification of "low mileage" swap.

A H22 tranny usually goes for 550-700 in good condition.

The M2B4 lsd tranny usually goes for 900-1100 in good condition

The fact that the head has been rebuilt could be a good or bad thing. The reason i say this is, the valve train is the weak point of the H22 motor. The stock rev limit is 7200 and the safe rev point is 7600 on stock springs. So, you could have revved too high too often or misshifted 1 time, either of which would result in bent valves. This is all from long term personal experience with the H22.

Hmotorsonline.com Jdm swap goes for 2199 plus shipping if needed, which runs an extra 150-200 dollars.

Sorry for the thread jack, but this should help clear up values for you and potential buyers.

If the compression test checks out and the rebuild can be proved in detail, 1800 is a very reasonable price for the full swap. If i were a buyer, I would feel like this is a fair deal. of course i would haggle you tho :tongue1:

jk man, gl with your sale.

and you could always part it...

1100k motor
600 tranny
100 wiring
50 axles
125 P13

I got 125 for my P13 on ebay like 5 minutes after posting it for buy it now.

looks like you win either way you go! Good luck again!

oh, and lmk if you have anything aftermarket on the motor you wanna part.

Insurance offered me enough that it is not worth my time or effort to try and part the vehicle out. The title is gone and I no longer have access to the car, so I cannot remove anything.
