I am trying to do a little research for my car dealership. How many of you have used Cars.com or Autotrader.com. Which do you prefer?

ive used autotrader twice

first time i used it i had a buyer within 2 weeks of placing the ad, second time my car went the full length of the ad w/ several price changes and never sold

id probably use it again...but w/ local websites like this one id use it first before resorting to paying for an ad

I meant to put up a poll but somehow screwed it up. lol. I am looking at this for a business to generate new customers and sales. For dealers they both have packages, Autotrader is about 3 times higher than Cars.com for a comparable service. I know Autotrader has always been the big one to turn to when looking for a used vehicle, especially in this area. I am just wondering how well Cars.com's new ad campaigns they have going is working.

i like cars.com now. i used to use auto trader, but the car i am looking for now is easier to find on cars.

when im looking for a car i will search both, along w/ all the local forums as well as some of the national forums, and local dealer websites, im sure not everyone is as thorough as me when looking for a new/used car....but like leadfoot said cars.com is easier to use to me

I use autotrader all the time. I've sold about 4 cars over then within about max 2 weeks of placing in the ad. It's also better to use AT then CARS because you also get your ad placed in the papers.

:D My market is not quite up to Dupont Registry standards. lol. I am looking for a cost effective marketing/sales tool that will get me bang for buck. Some of the things that AT and Cars offer are very valuable tools, as far as tracking statistics of vehicles as well as customers. I do feel that especially in Georgia Autotrader has an edge on Cars as far as customer base and recognition, however, I don't know that it is worth an extra $1,000 per month.

Haven't seen a Pantera in a while. Actually I know where one is that's in disrepair but they won't sell it for shit.

If ur searching to buy form a dealer, than cars.com thats all it is. But if u lookin for private sellers Autotrader/Craigslist cant be beat. but autotrader is starting to be taken over by dealers as well.. So craigslist is a better place for private sales to me.
