That is a very unneccessary means of crime deterrence. The punishment greatly exceeds what is necessary for the crime. And just letting a store owner do whatever he wants to them? I prefer a legal system. But that's just me.

I don't steal and I have no intentions to but I have compassion for others and cant stand seeing something like that happen.

well sorry i dont agree with most of you. i think the punishment fit. if i have to work hard to get the things i like, i dont think its right if someone can just take it and get away with it with little to no punishment. if that was how it was over here then alot less of you guys would get your cars stolen. ill say its a safe bet they wont do it again. were here you get jail time and probation?? hahahahaha thats not punishment, that like a time out when you were in school. then your sent back out to play.

cuz whats the worst punishment in America? life in prision? So, they have to be alive, eat, sleep, no worries, heat, gym everything they need. They don't care. Lethal injection isn't that big of a deal, most criminals won't ever recieve that punishment.

if we made the punishments much worse w/o having to deal with the prisions, it'd be a lot safer. Rapists (sp)....cut their penis off, or make the idea of sex to them so horiffic that they'd never do it again, Murder's. torture them, cut fingers off, bash their hands, i dunno.

i think we do need to take a stand over here for a lot of the really harsh crimes

I think most criminals in the US should be treated more harshly.. i agree with you Ant.. they need to be taught a lesson, jail is jail, it's bad but it's not having a few fingers cut off for stealing, they would look at their missing fingers everytime the thought of stealing came up.. something like that would be fair and make the US a safer place to live.
