This season the Atlanta Region of the Sports Car Club Of America will offer members of the your online car club community an opportunity to compete against each other in autocross events. Eligibility will be determined by the Administrators of your car club forums. Drivers will run in their appropriate SCCA classes and will be scored against each other based on the RTP/PAX (Racers Theoretical Performance) index. Only recognized SCCA National level classes (SS-HS, ASP-FSP, XP-GP, AM-FM, F125, SM, SM2, STS, STU, and STX), Street Touring 2 entrants are eligible. A special assigned <TAG> must appear in the car model field or sponsor field when registering for the event itself to be recognized for the challenge. We do online registration at http://www.dlbracing.com So get started right now. Select a forum coordinator and have them contact the membership chair brian larose ([email protected]). Our next event is April 22, at Turner Field Blue lot.

How do the Points work?
Drivers will receive “challenge points” for winning the <your car club> Challenge at individual events when there are 3 or more drivers competing. A 9-6-4-3-2-1 points scoring method will be used to determine the overall challenge champion based on each driver's best 6 events. Challenges can be scored with either be Relative Time (RTP/PAX) or raw time it is the decision of the Challenge Coordinator. Challenges can either be for a single event, or run the entire Atlanta Region Series.

What is this class structure all about and how will forum members classify their car?
The National Rulebook is available for download at the following site and will over some guidance. http://www.scca.org/_FileLibrary/File/2007SoloRules.pdf
The majority of cars will fall into these main classes
Stock (AStock, BStock, CStock, DStock, EStock, FStock, GStock, HStock)
Street Prepared (A Street Prepared, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP)
Or Street Modified (SM, SM2)
Or the Street Tire classes (STS, STU, STX, STS2)
For example, most stock cars with little or no modifications belong in Stock (AS for the fastest, HS for the slower cars). Cars with just a few performance modifications and mostly bolt on modifications will often be in Street Prepared (ASP for the fastest, thru FSP). Cars with power adders (Superchargers and add on turbos) or body panel changes (like carbon fiber hoods etc) will often fall into Street Mod. Other cars belong in MODIFIED or PREPARED depending on the changes made. I strongly recommend opening up that rulebook to appendix A on page 167 and finding your car before you go any further with this. There are many TeamSolo people who will help class your car if you need help. I suggest starting with an email to [email protected] stating what the car started out as (stock) and then list all the additions you’ve made.

How does the RTP/PAX index work?
The performance of cars is relative to their design, weight, engine, suspension and tires. In order to level the playing field, cars from different levels of preparation will have a multiplier (called the PAX index) which multiplies to compare things fairly. This is better explained on the website http://www.scca-chicago.com/solo/indexes/rtp2007.html This allows you to run what you have and not spend any money on go-fast parts in order to compete. You will compete with people on a somewhat level playing field. For example … He might have a supercharger and a fast time, but your bone stock car with sticky tires ends up winning on a lower PAX….

But my car club has never autocrossed…
An Atlanta Region SCCA assigned novice chief will help new drivers get acclimated to the program, how to drive at an event, working the course and so on. The online results will be available for all to view on our website SoloAtlanta.com. Results are published the same day of the event in DRAFT form and once finalized (usually 3-4 days after an event), your Coordinator will score the event. (9 points for first place, 6 for second, 3 for third, 2 for fourth and 1 for fifth place). The coordinator can then track points over the entire season and bragging rights will ensue? Best 6 events wins!

The Subaru WRX club of Atlanta did this challenge last year and it was an amazing success. http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthrea...p?t=5530&page=7 (http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5530&page=7)

When will this “Challenge” start?
As soon as your forum is ready to participate, please contact me and we’ll get started. The season has 8 events left, you can score points in each one and the top 6 will count.

Can people run in my board challenge even though they don’t own a <Porsche>?
Your Forum Challenge Coordinator will be responsible for determining who is elgible to participate. That function is not relative to the Atlanta SCCA. Put up a poll on your forum and see what the members want to do, or have an administrator make a decision. We would like to encourage the clubs with a manufacturing focus (mustang, corvette, Honda, Nissan, Dodge, etc) to limit participation to people who own that brand of auto, but it is completely up to the Forum Challenge Coordinator. You make the rules, we run the event, you score it and you award prizes and talk trash.

What is the cost and how do we pay?
There are no additional fees over and above the SCCA fees ($30 for scca members, $40 for non scca members). (you can join for $70 at the first event and run for free).. Your car club might or might not set fees to either fund trophies, or just do the whole series for bragging rights and fun. To pay for Atlanta Region SCCA events we have moved to a pre-payment via paypal. Details are available on the registration pages and FAQ.

I’m worried and don’t know ANYTHING about autocross. Where can I learn about it?
There are many good guides for beginning autocrossers on the internet. TireRack hosts a very good guide which can be found http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm

What is the schedule for events and when do I run?
