OK. Just curious if I can inspect the belt on a H22 without having to take the crank pulley off. Also is it true that the crank pulley has to come off to change the timing belt? Also looking for someone that is comfortable, read with a lot of experience, changing timing belt. Car is out of engine for a swap.

no the crank pulley does not have to be taken off to change your timing belt. You can inspect it by just taking of the cover. Go grab a helms manual, it'll help out alot.

thanks for the fast reply. One question. Why does everyone say HELMS? I did a swap in my Civic and used the Haynes book. I am doing a swap on my 93 Accord and using another Haynes, although I noticed that Haynes does not have a book for the Prelude so I guess I will get Chiltons. Just curious.

Actually I could have saved money and just bought the Chilton because it covers both Accord and Prelude.

To inspect your timing belt the valve cover and upper timing cover need to be removed. To replace your timing belt you have to remove crank pully, all drive belts, all timing covers, valve cover etc.

You can inspect the belt without removing the crank pully but the crank pully MUST come off to replace the belt. You cannot get the lower timing cover off without removing the pulley. Im a mechanic.

Sorry I posted on another board and the response was yes the pulley has to come off to change he timing belt. So at the time it was 1 response here saying yes, take it off to change the belt and 1 also no, it did not have to come off. I appreciate the info.

classic example of why people who dont know what they are talking about should not say anything lol.
