So in a crx what would be best bet? Also I need what? Motor, trans, ecu, wire harness, computer, is that it?

b16 for dd and price
h22 for a drag car (alot of work)

your choice!

So why is h22 alot of work? Also you say b16 instead of b18? Im new to the honda motors. I do drive a civic and a ridgeline but Im more fmailiar with nissan motors.

Either one is an assload of work. Good luck. I'd just buy a car with an H22. :goodjob:

Ok why is it a assload of work? I was thinking of a 90 crx and doing this too. If I have a front clip then would it still be alot of work?

i meant b18

what if u have all the parts?

Yes, an H22 will require some additional work (not crazy amounts of custom but some extra) but IMO I like it more.

If I could do it again, I would never go with a B16 in my CRX the first time. I would've just gotten an H22 swap for cheaper (than a B16 motor) & then used the rest of the money for the extra labor for the H22 swap.

Think about it, B16s make no torque & 160 HP while H22 make alot more torque & are rated at 200 hp .. It'd be a faster bolt-in motor overall and the motor itself is no more than 50 lbs heavier so it shouldn't mess with handling.

What kind of custom work does it need?

What kind of custom work does it need?
I read it in a Super Street, Import Tuner or something similar awhile back but I forgot ..

All I remember is some exact spots in the walls of the engine bay have to be hammered in for the motor to fit, but I read it & it didn't seem like it was impossible at all. Obviously, because there are plenty of CRX/H22s :goodjob:

Hasport makes H22 mounts for CRXs now... The details should be on their site. If you really want to go all out though, shoot for a K20.

Well, how about a H2B swap into your car ?

Got the benefits of both setups, H22 for the displacement and torque and the B-series tranny for the gear ratios.

I'm a huge fan of the K20 (obviously) and the H22 as well. Though I feel the K20 is definitely a superior engine to the h22, I just don't think the power differences are worth the work I'd anticipate and especially the difference in cost between a h22 and a k20a2. You'll find more help and guidance on the H22 as well if you do the install. Jusy my .02

Just to elaborate further on the h2b swap.

You get the power of the h22 and tranny ratios of a b-series, which in turn means performance on par with the k20a2, not to mention it will cost a hell of a lot less than a k20a2.

I think d-sport or some magazine has a article about it. Trust me, a h2b swap will give you what you want and then some.

It really depends on what your going for. N/A, turbo, reliabiliy, dd,..................

Get a ZC/d15b/d16a6/z6/y8 swap if your car is down and need wheels asap. LOL They are not really that bad. With a few bolt ons they can beat b18a/b and b16 swap cars. One bad thing is it's hard to get parts for the ZC, but other than that they are ok! (1/4 times 15-16 sec car) {also realize times depend on the drivers, tires, location,.....}

The best bang for your buck would be a b18a/b. Why? Because they are the cheapest b and strongest. It can be used both for N/A and turbo. If you want vtec, you can add that later down the road (but the block would need to be built) and they can hold alot of boost. (1/4 times 15 sec car)

I have at b16 swap in my car and it's pretty quick (over stock). The swap is kinda pricey compared to b18a/b (which has more tq but less hp) swap. The best part of the swap is the b16 tranny. Its perfect for drag racing. Also you dont have to worry about building the motor for vtec like you would for a LS/Vtec. (1/4 times 14-15 sec car)

GSR/TypeR swap is like taking the best from both the b16 and b18a/b and combining them. You get more tq, vtec, and a nice geared tranny. Down fall is the price. Its like $1k-$3.5K more than the b16 swap which is already over priced. (1/4 times 13-14 sec car)

A H22 is cheaper and more powerful then the GSR (cost just a tab bit more than a b16). Down fall labor. Now you can mounts and axles, but they cost more than they would for a b-series swap. Then the wiring is a pain and there's something crazy with the shift linkage. On top of it, the swap weighs more than b and that already weighs more than your factory engine. So handling is affected (some say it not bad, others say it's horrible). One reason why I like a crx is because of it handling and weight. So.............. (1/4 times 13 sec car)

K-series swap are the new thing. If you want to drop +$8k into your CRX be my guess! With the money you spend on this swap you can swap one of the previous motors and turbo them! Shit if you get a d-series or b18a/b motor you can turbo+build those motors for the price of that swap! Unless you swap the Civic Si/RSX base motor in you EF (which I doubt). (1/4 times 12-13 sec car)

Hopefully this help! My suggestion is to do alot of thinking before you make your choice. Also plan out what you want to do so you dont change you mind a lot (like me). At first I wanted a b20z, then b18a/b, but got a b16. Since then I wanted to go b20/vtec, but bought a b16 swap to build LOL. Oh yeah dont let others design your car for ya! Its okay to take suggestion, but dont base your decision on other people opinion! :goodjob:

H22 homes, in reality they are not much heavier than a B16 (50 lbs MAX) and I'm almost positive it won't affect handling.

A friend of mine gotta H22 swap in an EK an said he didn't feel any handling difference, yes its in an EK but it's still a Civic hatch.
