Athens Area Mountain Run 4/15/2007

EDIT: The meeting place is going to be at the Walmart in Dahlonega on Hwy 19. The time should be 11am. Everyone should have walkie talkies as they help spot dangers, etc. There is a lot of gravel on the roads so keep a certain distance between cars.

Directions: Take a left at the redlight when 400 ends (hwy 60) follow that through Dahlonega until you come to the R ranch (Rock pile) take a right on hwy 19. The Walmart is gonna be on the right.
For the loop: Continue on Hwy 19 north to Hwy 129, left on 129, follow that til tyou come to hwy 180 (left), follow that all the way back to hwy 60 (Suches)

Right now it looks as if it's going to rain / 49 degrees max. If that's the case i'm not gonna go. It's not smart to risk your car in the mtns in the rain, even though mine is awd.

The mountain is not a racing circuit... And no one should be driving like it is one. I'm not gonna stop anyone from coming along, but, that being said, if you're slow you might fall behind.

Athens FTMFL! But the run is gonna be good. It looks like it's gonna warm up by sunday, and i'm not too worried about traffic. The tour de georgia starts in peachtree city the next day, so i don't think there's gonna be a lot of them up there. Everybody should have walkie talkies just in case. I'm gonna post up more clear directions in the next few days.

I took that by mounting my camera in my car with a tripod. I could possibly do that if I go up.

I'd be taking my automatic '88 Fiero though...the alignment and wheel balancing is all fucked on my manual '86 Fiero.

We'll probably go at a pace that works for everyone. Deal's Gap is the real deal, the north ga roads are not as intense. The blood mtn loop is also known as wolf pen gap, 3 gaps, etc. It's basically the 129 / 60 / 180 area up in dahlonega.

2-seater or 4-seater?

In my car, its a two seater, I put the camera on a tripod and wedge it between my passenger seat, center console, and the rear firewall. It sits there just fine through rough corners... I'll get a picture of it tonight.

You got a 4-seater or a 2-seater that doesn't work like that, you take your camera, put it in a tripod, and duct-tape (or something similar) to the back left side of the front passenger seat. That way, you aim the camera, it looks out the front window, and if you're lucky like me you can see the shifting a little, and you can see the tach, the steering wheel, and a little of my speedometer.

nah i ahve a civic coupe.. but i tookd the back seats out..:D i was thinking of making a brakect that could have holes to where i could lay it on top of the seats and slide the head rest poles thru it so it would lock into place
