View Full Version : valve cover over 200 degrees?

I wanna paint my valve cover using a textured paint, but the paint says not to use on things that are gonna get over 200 degrees... does the VC get that hot?

Dupli-color offers paints that can withstand up to 500 degrees.

I baked my paint at 200.

Just find out what your normal operating temperature is and go from there.

i got high temp paint from aut zone and painted mine worked fine and it's still on there good as it was the day i painted it.. just a little dirty lol

i think you can paint your vc with normal paint and it will be fine.

yea you can paint it will normal paint and it will be fine. its all about prep. i thought you had already done some covers. you said you were gonna have some bad ones to show off.

i painted one with some regular paint a while back, it was fine!

I do have some badass ones to my name, but I always use high temp paint. I prepped with high temp primer, and then did the paint over... so far, so good. Pics to come shortly. :)

i've used 1200° ceramic paint with all the proper steps to prepping & cleaning and it eventually bubbled in the corners and crevices after 6-8 months. http://www.duplicolor.com/products/engine.html

...paint acts as insulation and holds heat in so it will get hotter than if it didn't have that extra coat of paint, now I only use unfinished aluminum but powdercoating would be the only other option i'd consider.

and DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT sandblast the valve cover under any circumstances...i can't tell you how many people that rattle can a VC tell me they had that done, LOLOL....sand will remain in the baflles until the oil pressure pushes it out while driving, you will not be able to clean it all out beforehand and sand and valvetrain don't exactly go together ;)
