have you tried fedora 7 yet? I think its usability is better than ubuntu, plus cant go wrong with red hat backing it.. software is rpm based as well--last ubuntu release I used didnt support rpm.. hardware support isnt quite as good as ubuntu, but when thats set up.. its rare you that you have to dig into conf files lol
