View Full Version : AE86 vs Anything at Commerce

My car is so fast. I swear. I went to Commerce and was just curious to see what it would run. First I was paired up against a four door, blue muscle car of some sort. He ran a 13.6 to my 16.7. HACHIROKU! Then, (now this is fun.) I race the car I was going to buy instead of my AE86, a red B13 SE-R with an SR20DET. He spins 1st and 2nd, all the while walking my ass to run a 13.3 to my 16.6. Awful. Now get this. I get in line hoping they'll pair me up agianst something as pathetically slow as my damned Corolla. Nope. I get stuck with a Mustang GT. I heat up my rear tires a bit and think to myself, "this car is a piece of shit, and doesn't have enough torque or power to spin hot and sticky Falken Azenis." I was wrong. I launch at 6k (out of anger for being paired against the damned GT) and the car sits still for an eternity and suddenly takes off as the sticky tires sling the car foward. I was to pissed to see what the Mustang ran, because I ran a 17.0.

What a joke. AE86s are slow.
oh and I love having to shift into 4th before the end of the track.

Needless to say, I was killed by everything I was paired agianst tonight, and would have been killed by anything I could have possibly been paired against.

on a side note, my cars gas tank is extremely rusty (thank you previous owner) so after filling up completely with gas for the trip home, the car felt infinitely quicker. (The car studders badly at 1/4th a tank, and will only continue to drive if you shift lock the car or dump the clutch at redline)

The lesson learned tonight?
The 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S is better at going sideways, than it is at going straight.

Have you seen the video of the AE86 with the 20B in it?

I think I saw you out there. Is your car primered?

I was running the black 88 prelude (my wife and I were basically taking turns)

You got it good... This car has a potential of running low 12's. He just can't hook up for shit.

But for the referene I like your style corolla. I think they are sweet.

Vids of my black 88 Prelude? Where they at? :)

Yeah, I remember you! How many times you been to the strip? This was my second so I know that I can do better than the 14.8 I got that night. Practice makes perfect! ;)

With 180fwhp and around 2700lbs, I expected to be hitting mid 14's. Now granted I'm not totally familiar with the car or it's powerplant but still. I've trapped 94-95 which I've seen people hit mid 14's so it's probably just me...
Is it me or is Commerce pretty crappy for street cars? There where a few B series hatches and CRX's and they where hitting mid to high 15's...a little below what I would have expected (no disrespect intended!).

It always seems to be really hot at Commerce... That drag strip is the destroyer of mens dreams.

Gtech runs dont count for shit, but i ran it at the track to compare accuracy.. and to my surprise the most it was ever off was .5 higher mph in the traps, and about 1 1/2 tenths of second off in 1/4. commerce just sucks man. well anyway point of the story being

i have ran 13.6XX at 102.XX mph on Gtech with 2.0xx's 60's
i just run alot better on the street
