so fuck you assholes who are probably going to post a muffler or some shit up, this is a serious question lol....

so im going to my girls house tonight and making a chicken and rice dish (sauteed chicken breast marinated with lemon pepper and orange juice with onion, pineapple, a little bell pepper, honey, and a few other spices on top of rice)

anyway, ive made this dish 3 times and twice the rice turned out shitty. other than using boil in bag rice, whats a good technique for making rice that is fluffy and not dried out?

thanks

umm. put it in a pressure cooker? boil it.

or go to some womens store (linens and things, bed bath and beyond..that stuff) and buy the microwavable rice cookers, those things kick ass and come with instructions on how much water for how much rice, it always turns out good.

combine one cup of rice. and one cup water in medium sauce pan/pot. bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer covered for20 mins or until watter is absorbed. remove for heat, let stand covered for 10 mins. i gues if u wanna make two cups of rice increase water to 1 3/4 cup

enjoy!!

Brandsmart, you can pay $15-200 for a rice cooker. Sears had a stainless steel one on sale the other day for around $30. By far the best and easiest way to cook rice.

By chance have you been cooking on an electric stove the last few times and possibly on gas before? Electric stoves suck, their heat cannot be controlled properly...

the trick is letting the rice marinate in water for like 3 hours.drain..then use a pressure cooker

i was thinking that had something to do with it. the first time was gas but the last two were electric but also on the last time i did it, the eye was already heated up so, idk.

Well we use the rice cooker but it only takes liek 45 minutes at tops. Make sure you use the right amount of water. At least make sure the water is above the rice about 5 centimeter. Too lil your got dry ass rice. ppl make assumption that covering the top of rice with water is perfect but wrong. More is better too make it right but at a perfect amount. AND do yourself a favor if you dont got a rice cooker....um well go buy rice from the nearest restaurant honestly I hate eating rice out of pots taste like crap. Like really crappy.

I have a bamboo steamer that sits in my wok...for vegetables, rice, etc.

and that would be?he's gonna say microwave

**EDIT**** HAHAHA told you!!

NOTES
For fluffier, faster cooking rice, try soaking it in cold water for about thirty to sixty minutes prior to cooking.

Before cooking, rinse the rice several times, until the water comes out clear. This removes any starch and residue - otherwise the rice may be sticky.

When cooking rice in a saucepan, be sure to use a pot with a heavy bottom - copper is best. This will give the rice a thinner crust.

Personally, I say either boil it in a pot or microwave, use a small amount of water. My preference is to use a little (small amount) salt. My rice usually comes out slightly fluffy, too much salt and it sticks together.

The perfect amount of water is to stick your index finger in the water. Make the tip of your finger touch the top of the rice and fill the water up to the first line on your finger ( the joint line). Or you can just take your time and measure 1 1/4 cup of water for every cup of rice. Rice cooker is your best bet for cooking rice.

I got a 15 year old rice cooker at my house that I use. I just rinse it about 4-6 times until the water is relatively clear, then pour in water on the rice until there's about an inch of water on top of it. Then stick it in the rice cooker and push the button. When it dings, it's done. Takes about 15-20mins. :D

My parents use one of those new fancy rice cookers but it takes longer and the rice comes out too dry IMO.

I've got a recipe at the house I'll try to post later. I mainly just make egg or chicken fried rice. Pork is a nice change sometimes, but rarely. :)

I've got a recipe for kimchee fried rice as well, if some of you guys like kimchee.
