View Full Version : Shop Info for Catback Install?

Hey guys - long time no post, heh! :o
My question is, I'm looking for a good shop to install my Magnaflow Catback that I will be receiving soon for my '03 Eclipse. Now, I would totally do it myself, but 1. I don't have a lift, and 2. I'm pretty sure the bolts under there are rusted as all hell, and I don't have the tools nor the upper body strength :lmao: to remove them myself! Blah blah, excuses, I know - oh well, I'll pay someone to do it, call me lazy!
So I haven't lived here long at all, but I'm slowly getting acquainted with GA, that's why I'm posting. I searched the forums and read the sticky, but I'm still not sure where any of these cities are, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a place close to Alpharetta (exit 11 off 400). Also, I'm looking for a trust worthy place, that I can rely on and put 100% confidence in doing a good job - but I'm sure that's obvious for anyone.
Thanks a bunch guys, and I hope I didn't put this in the wrong place!

hey this is Jordan_W from club3g.com
i think we're the only posting 3G's on IA, woot.
So why did you choose that over the Greddy EvoII or the Invidia?
I will do it for $50. Undercutting FTW.

Hey Jordan
My ex (oro on club3g) had the Magnaflow on his 01 Eclipse (he has a Z now) and I fell in love with the sound. Even Sintec ended up getting the Magnaflow after he heard oro's exhaust. I'm not into the ricey, Japanese sounding exhausts. The Magnaflow has a nice, deep rumble to it; I just love it!

You guys are sweet and all, but the only reason I'd pay is to get it done at a professional place. Other wise, if I knew someone with a lift, I'd just do it myself and with a friend. :)
Jackstands FTW...GTFO with this professional stuff.

:goodjob: Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.
I still don't understand why it matters if it goes on a lift or not. I think it is pretty stupid that the only way you will pay is if it goes to a shop. Hoe does your car going on a lift change anything? It's not like a lift magically makes your exhaust work better. Either way it is on your car... It's four fucking bolts... not rocket science.

I have no idea what you're talking about . I don't care how it gets lifted, that wasn't my point :lmao:. My point was, if I'm going to pay, I might as well throw the money towards a professional; that's all. 'Just how I want to spend my money. If something goes wrong with my exhaust later on, it gets lose, it falls off, it's not straight, the alignment is off, it's scratched up, etc., I can go after a shop - it's all about liability. Just how I personally feel, that's all.

if its a premade catback, its nothing but a few bolts and a hanger.....theres no alignment there unless we need to weld it

That's what I'm not sure about to begin with, atm. I haven't received the catback yet, it's on the way, but I've been told by a few Eclipse owners that they had to get theirs realigned and welded, while others had a perfect fit http://www.club3g.com/forum/images/smilies/dunno.gif. I guess it all depends. We'll see when it gets here.

if its a model specific catback, there shouldnt be anything to do lol. If you havent gotten it yet, i would go to mainstream and just do a custom one IMO

i think she's being smart about it, i would feel safer just knowing the shop isn't going anywhere and can be held liable.

A "professional" is required to use a socket wrench. Nor does paying him provide you any benefits over someone who doesnt own a business. That's not a wise way to spend money. Businesses incur more costs than individuals, so you are paying more money for the same labor.

Well didn't the exhaust come off of another 3G eclipse? Chances are it bolts right up no problem.

i think she's being smart about it, i would feel safer just knowing the shop isn't going anywhere and can be held liable. have you even heard of someone installing an exhaust wrong, if i couldnt do it i would have one of the guys on hear do it just because it is damn near impossible to install wrong.

It's just a measure for safety, besides how much difference is it? He wanted $60 my shop charges $85 an hour. In this time The exhaust can be hung and if need be, can be welded or have hangers welded instead of bolted on. Also althought model specific exhaust systems are usually perfect, some are angled, some protrude further, so it depends, my Magnaflow I used to have on my Eclipse protruded further than a buddy who had the same 3g though I didn't mind it much, I liked it a little more that way. :goodjob: Do what you want to do.

Lol, not really. But it's hilarious how when a girl makes a thread all the guys are like "ooh I will help." And everyone keeps undercutting each other to help her out.

I know it doesn't. We put R3RUN's turbo back on and off his car like 20 times in a day due to some issues, it's not a big deal at all.
Yeah a 12 pack is a reasonable and fair fee for a catback install.
