I would of gotten a lawyer.
What the guy who owns the domain needs to do now is put a ton of nasty porn on it forcing Subaru to buy the site at a high high price. :)

They have a lawyer. And Subaru doesnt want to buy the site they want it removed for copyright infringement and want 100k in compensation.

^ i would have to agree w/ chris Subaru has some pretty $$$ lawyers so i'm not sure how long he could last against them, but it depends... if he is in the state of CA i would go for it b/c he has a very good chance agains them :D
but either way if his shit was under a TIN and wasn't under his personall name i would defiantely go for it... only thing they could do at that point is shut his business down, which wouldn't be that big of deal b/c i would open another and do the same thing under a different name. ;)

Well Julio- You had better hope that the City of Atlanta's lawyers never find this site. They might think it is an official site of Atlanta and try to shut you down too.
LOL
Bastard Subaru lawyers-- the members were making some great points- like they have 8200 members... and say 75% of em bought an STi- thats 6150 people who each paid -- lets say 32K on a top of the line subaru.
Thats $196,800,000.00 in sales because of enthusiasts and enthisiasts sites like that one. I am sure Subaru appreciated that $$...
Subaru is really not doing themselves a favor.

I also had to laugh (but it made sense..) at the one guy who posted back about Not wanting Subaru to advertise on his car without paying for it. He is going to charge them $5 a day per emblem (3 emblems) and he has owned it for 2 years- thats over $10K that he will be asking back from Subaru.
Thats just to show Suabru how stupis they are being to their owners and enthusiasts.

this is what the thoughts are on a board im a part of. www.wrxatl.com
i think they went after them cause there was no mention of a club or group in there title. The problem is not that it's an enthusiast club, but that the site was a specific trademark of Subaru "Impeza WRX STi." Even if they had the disclaimer that Alex* put, they would probably still have to change their name. We're safe because we're using a blanket or condensed version of the trademark "Impreza WRX." Furthermore, it's specifically tied with a location: Atlanta, separating it from all other WRX forums. iwsti's (i'm just using this because it's shorter) problem was that it was simply the car's name with no identifier. Think about most official sites: WWW.swrt.com, www.subaru.com, www.subaruofamerica.com, etc etc. They are the name, title, whatever of a company or product. It's reasobale to assume that someone wanting to know what exactly a WRX is would go to www.impreza.com, www.subaru.com, www.subaruwrx.com, or something like that. By letting iwsti use the full name, subaru is giving away a trademark for free that it could use to set up a dedicated site for the STi... Legally, they own the trademark. Is it a good move? I don't know that it'll hurt anyone at all in the end, and i don't think it will negatively affect customer relations. Becaus elook at this too: If on iwsti someone wrote bad things about the STi, or slandered Evos or Audis, subaru could be considered to share that opinion because the site name is under their trademark. It's a stretch, but not out of the question. Anyway, that's just some things to think about. In the end, i don't see this causing any real disruptions in the subaru community, but subaru does have to cover it's ass when someone owns a domain with their intellectual property because they don't control the posts on that domain.

I sent a letter to Subaru's PR. It did affect them in a bad way. I am definately not buying a Subaru now. We were looking at a WRX last night for the wife. Not as of this morning.

Hmm... Thats the first I've heard of that. I'll believe it when I see it. Although either way, I don't care lol. Mitsubishi as a company means less than nothing to me.. I drive a Mirage, but thats only cause it gets 45mpg and it only cost 2 grand.. I could just as easily get a honda, vw, or another putt putt to fill the need.
As for the whole suburu thing... what was there original domain name? iwsti.com? If so, I dont see how that would affect them... if they wanted an official site, it should of been sti.com... I think it's stupid of them to show there owners/enthusiast how cheapass they are. I dont see Ford ever sueing stangnet.com or fordpowered.net... They should just change the name of the site to shitboxsubaru.com just to piss em off... change it from an enthusiast site to a hater site lol.

60+ percent of Mitsubishi is funded by Chrysler. Chrysler is not happy with the poor performance of Mitsubishi and has been considering pulling thier money away from Mitsubishi and using it for more profitable endeavors. Julio posted this along time ago way before IA crashed.
