Is there anywhere like a quick tutorial or even a full tutorial that shows someone how to paint step-by-step. I know half of IA knows or has painted something and I am not talking about spray can. I have a spray gun, compressor, and can get the rest fairly easily. I just need someone to tell me how to do this shit. lol

reason for asking...I just bought some brand new fairings for my bike unpainted and not primered. I am wanting to change the color of my bike as soon as I buy it.

1. I wanted a simple base coat (no orange peal) and a two stage clear so it really shines.
2. reason for simple base and two stage clear is because I am into airbrushing and can do it fairly well so I am going to airbrush a design.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated and repped.

disclaimer...for mods: I didn't know where else to post this up since yall changed everything around on me.

You don't happen to have a question for those of us who do not know how to paint do you? Later, QD.

I have some pointers, but then again my paint is like an orange or maybe grapefruit.

LOLO WTH SNAIL NOW YOU PPL IN YOUR SIGS AHAHAHHAHAAH but um sloRSX...the only thing I remeber is take your times and be consistent. Like each paint gets an even coat. Its gonna be hard since it's gonna wear out your arm. And spray in strokes like the hood go down and up doors & panels side to side.

check that out. I haven't read it but they have some good info.

You are looking for a basecoat. Many brands to choose from (ppg, house of kolors, prospray, valspar, dupont the list keeps on going). All depends on how much you want to spend. Your basecoat will be reduced with a reducer. Different reducers for different tempetures. There are many good clears out there. It all depends on how much you want to spend. I personally like southernpoly urethanes universal clear. It mixes 1:1, costs $200 a gallon with activator. There are also different activators for different tempetures.

If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

to all the auto painters in here...do you think this set looks straight...I got it at Harbor Freight for $60 for the two paint guns and the big one has a 1.4 mm tip and a 1.8 ("for primer" it says)

for just starting off, it should be ok. Use the 1.4 tip for base/clear and the 1.8 for primer. I'd hate to spray primer through the same gun that i spray base/clear with, but if you clean it throughly after each use you should be fine.

Yeah, 30 gallons or bigger so you have a continuous spray

not really size, but cfm. You could have a 80 gallon compressor that only puts out 4cfm but it won't do any good for an all over paint job. For professional use, 14cfm and up is good. But for just painting a fairing or fender, a decent consumer brand compressor will do.

your gun should say what CFM is needed for it. All guns are different though. i recently did some painting. it seems like it may be an interesting/fun hobby but it really turns into a headache.especially if you have any bodywork to do.I could go on for days about how many things factor into getting great results. I'd do those fairings you were talking about first, then see if you want to move onto cars, bumpers, etc.
good luck

hahaha preshiate it guys and Val for the instructional picture.

as for the cfm...on the Larger gun the CFM is 9 @ 35 PSI and on the Smaller one it is 5 @ 30 psi.

1ST RULE OF PAINTING ANYTHING IMPORTANT.. 10 light coats is better then 1 heavy coat.. and WHATEVER YOU DO!! let it dry before putting another coat on or it'll peel..

what type of bike do you have Alvin?

ALVIN
03-14-2007, 08:44 PM
i do not own one as of yet...I took that GA DMV course and got my license and am just waiting for the last day of classes to buy the bike. Before I anounce what it is going to be (will surely get flamed for it) yes I can ride, i've riden a GSXR 600, the Honda Rebel, and a few others so i am somewhat of a newb to bike but I know what I am doing.

It is going to be a '06 RC51 :D
