View Full Version : Age of a mionr in GA
The place that I'm getting hired at is making me get a work permit. I got it and it says near the bottom are you a minor. Well I'm 17 I've been searching google trying to find out what what the age of a minor is in GA. But I just keep getting some BS sites that doesn't even help. Does anyone know the age of a minor in GA? Any help will be awesome! Reps will be given :goodjob:

For work purposes, Minor=anyone under the age of 18.
So you would have to put "yes" in that slot since you are 17.
In Georgia, I believe the minimum legal age for work purposes is 15. Don't quote me on that, but I believe that's it. It was when I was 15, but that was a LOOOOONNNNGGGG time ago for me. :D

they prolly take you to jail or equivalent for that even if you were 15 driving with your mom. :police:

15 = work permit. 16 too i believe, but at some places they don't require it. 17 all the times, but they'll require a permit if they really really are anal, but usually 16 is the age people will start hiring you.

they must have changed that within the last 4 years
when i started workin i was 16, and i didnt need a "work permit"
im now 22
plus when i started you could start working at age 14
so if the laws havent changed within the last 4 years then you only need a permit if you are under 16
This is kind of retarted. All the other jobs I've had before never required me to get one of these work permits. But this place for some reason wants me to get one. The place I'm getting a job at is Cinnabon in MoG

I'm sure they have something which requires them to make you get a permit.

Guys, yall aint getting it. SOME employers need it, while others don't. It's really not that big a deal IMO. If you want a job where they need it, go get it. If they don't, don't bother. It's not a big deal really.
Speaking from a business owner's point of view, I can assure you that business owners do the very LEAST they have to do to stay compliant. No more, no less. If they are asking you for a permit, it's probably because something, some clause, something in your job duties, your schedule, the location, the type of job......SOMETHING is causing them to HAVE to ask you to get one.
I linked several links where it explains who and why they require certain employers to have regulations regarding "child labor". Read them and I'm sure you will find something, even if it's one thing, that fits your employer that asked you to get a permit before working there.

Under age 18 you are considered a minor, The only reason they ask for work permit is if you are still in school, At age 17 I did 40HRS a week without permit, I had it but didnt need it..
It really doesn't matter to me I just filled the thing out gave it to the employer and they filled there part out and I give it to the school. Not a big deal to me, the last job I worked at I worked 40 hours minimum a week.
