When boosting a D series... which is more of a concern... How much PSI you are pushing... or how much HP the engine is making?

oh yeah thanks for all the help with my noob questions :)

hey man, it all depends on what you are doing? running a turbo or supercharger???? they are to different styles of set-ups. let me know what your running style of D-series motor, and i'll let you know. i'm running a Jackson Racing Supercharger on my D16....

I pmed you just in case you didn't know lol...

both.

10psi is ok on a T3 or T25
10psi is NOT OK on a GT4088R

whp just helps guess what the motor is making relative to turbo size. if you tell me your making 250whp at 5psi, then i assume you have a monster turbo. bevcause thats the only way a D series makes that kind of power, with a big turbo.

you say your making 250whp at 10 psi, then i assume its a T3/T4ish setup.

either way, Boost relative to hp output is what kills a motor. A d series we dont reccomend past 10psi or 230-250whp on stock motor

I ran a t3 60 trim on my with 11 psi and untuned for 2 years until it spun a bearing...d16y8, heard its the most common with spun bearings. I loved the t3, it didn't have too bad of a lag and it gave me some good top end power. I still have that turbo and a manifold if you're interested =0). There's ZERO shaft play and the seals are still perfect.

well my setup is going to be a turbonetics t3/t4 50 trim with the .48 A/R getting it up to the shop soon to get tuned and installed.

he has a stock motor, D15B SOHC JDM VTEC

an no hes not running 1bar, an he will never run that much boost on a D series lol. thats dangerous as hell

and Mr. Kidd should know lol... he did my engine swap and is doing the turbo install :) MSPi FTW :) Great guys over there so far as I've seen.

yep, it is ... but it's fun as hell too.

but then, you're suppose to realy know what you're doing in order to run that much boost on a stock D .. LOL

EDIT: mine is daily driver too :D

any dyno #'s yet? very curious. thought about pushing mine a little further once i install my boost controller and larger map-sensor.

nop. I just installed the 2.5 bar motorola sensor as well, cause I was running 1 bar on the stock one, and I can say the 2.5 bar works very nice. And the compensation for that one in the Hondata s300 matched the stock map sensor 1:1 in vacuum and in boost up to 10 psi. Gotta love that.

so what I did was I went and tuned the car up to 16psi ... so damn, I'm happy. I don't drive at that much though, I keep it at 1 bar, cause it's not stable anyways (jumps up to 15 and down to 13 psi) ... Damn internal wastegate

but honestly, I've calculated my timing precisely, so I'm confident in running 16psi. I know of one guy that did that much boost with streight 1deg/psi retard from the boost start, and he ran like that for 1 year, until one day he put some crappy gas and blew it. And I run 2 degrees less than him at that boost level :D When I get bored, I may run it at 16 psi ... oh well

I think the car misfires form time to time, so I guess I'll pregap the plugs again.

ah, hear this: I've almost maxxed out my RC440cc injectors, cause I'm running the stock fuel pump, LOL

EDIT: of course it's gonna misfire .. I changed plugs yesterday, and the old ones measured 0.055 gap  30K turbo miles ago those were at 0.035 gap :D
