It's going on cingular, and you'll probably need a 60/mo plan to get the 8 gig for $600

i dont want the iPhone because its touch screen and im really paranoid about finger prints on my iPod so that would just drive me insane.

The only reason why I wont purchase this phone is because its governed by ITunes. I'm sorry but ITunes owns you. Its too much restriction with what media you can take off and on your IPOD. Where you can upload, download, how many computers you can do it too... licensing...
Its too much drama with ITunes. In a year or so, others will come out with their on derivative. I'd rather wait that long that have to deal with "big brother" ITunes.

Cool phone. Cool options. ...but that's waaaaaay too much $ to spend on something that will be dropped at lest 3 times a day. I'll wait until the exclusive contract with Cingular is up. Hopefully by then they'll be more reasonably priced.

if you guys are getting it for the full touchscreen capability i would go with the lg prada....since apple is infamous for short battery life, and most likely it will be full of glitches...i'll just wait for the reviews to be out and decide then....getting it as soon as it hits the stores? bad idea....

it is a lot of money, i'm still debating whether or not to get it.
i'm due for a resigning of contract so i will get the discounted price.
and how is itunes big brother?
if you know what you are doing there are so many ways around it, and who says you have to download your songs from itunes. just go to an outside source and use itunes as your media player and use it to transfer to the ipod.
c'mon peeps, you just have to be tech savy is all

yeah no 3g..
non replacable battery..
web browser wont do java or flash..
no keyboard at all..
cannot send pictures messages.. SERIOUSLY WTF thats like basic shit..
and its own data plans cost a shit ton more than the regular ones..
seriously not worth it.
give lg, samsung, nokia, Motorala a few months they'll have something out with a similar interface but actually has all the features, costs less and prolly lasts a whole lot better.

Honestly I think it's overrated. It 's a waste of money. The price will drop in a year. Just like the chocolate. I was crazy over that phone bc it is touchscreen. Turns out.. I hate that stupid piece of crap. The touch sensitive part quit working in 2 months. And more and more problems keep coming up.

Ive personally had one for about 6 months and honestly have very few complaints. My biggest complaint was the browser, but with the last software update i can run Opera on it now and its great. Not to mention that evdo rev a is killing at&t's 3g in speed tests.

Are you guys on a family plan? Just the basic unlimited minutes plan is $99.99/mo.
green91
03-25-2009, 08:53 PM
By At&t's page:
Their LOWEST plan is
nation 450 ($39.99) + DATA ($30). so thats $69.99 +taxes/fees without text. Unlimited text on that is total $89.99 + taxes/fees.

03-25-2009, 09:27 PM
I use my cell phone for work, and its my only personal phone too (no landline). So my usage varies quite a bit. If i went down a plan or two with scheduled minutes. For no more difference cost in plans it doesn't make sense to have a scheduled minutes plan for my phone.

But it lacks wi-fi. I think you should actually hold an iPhone before you get to bashing comparing it to a $400 device with no wi-fi. And who said the iPhone doesnt have a SIM card? Mine does. And you still have to buy a data plan for the eternity to connect to the internet.

I owned the 2g 8gig, the 3g 16gig White and it messed up on me. Went to Apple, they gave me a brand new 3g 16gig White.
Tip, if you used a plastic phone protector, apply masking take to the back of your phone so it doesn't get scratched up. My 1st 16gig got knicked like crazy b/c of all the debry in my pockets.

Lol. The iPhone is the late 00's version of the RAZR in that it is very ubiquitous. It has its pluses and minuses. The new version is not quite groundbreaking...and neither was the 3G when it came out. Its a lot of money to pay for the addition a compass and a slightly faster phone (if you already have one).
The hardware as a phone platform probably has ~2 more years in it before it goes the way of the razr, and people start getting new phones.

Have you seen the numbers? The iPhone is the best selling phone or #2 and its not cheap like the Razr. Now with a $99 version, iPhone sales will only increase.
I've had dozens of phones and I was one that hated the iPhone at first. Its marvelous. I keep my BB for business but it just isn't the device the iPhone is.

So..? Its got a ton of features for the price, so what if other people have it? Everyone i know has a bathroom in their house.. that doesn't make me want to build a house without one. If you base every purchase in your life on whether someone else has it, youre not going to be a very happy person. By the time ANY product is on the market.. someone else already has it. Who cares?

The iPhone in its current state (even the new one) isn't really pushing any boundaries. 1-2 years from now, phones with less rigid control over how to use the hardware will have eclipsed the iPhone in terms of versatility.
Example: You can't use whatever-mp3 you want as ring tone and apple is known for denying programs access to their marketplace.... I think there are like 3-4 android phones coming out this year. I don' think apple will be able to keep up.
For Pete's sake, you guys don't even have MMS picture messaging until June 17! The 'piece' RAZR could even do that.
I'm not knocking anyone for liking the iphone, it does have a pretty, easy-to-use interface.... but its not top dog anymore. The Palm Pre has been getting some good press lately.

MMS, while a new feature now, us with iPhones have had it since the iPhone was born. It's called email which was just as easy, if not easier
And as far as the Iphone not being top dawg? Sales numbers tell me a different story...

There is nothing NEW about the "new" version. You gotta give it to the Apple team, they've sold the same phone 3 TIMES, and people still line up to buy the "new" version. There's nothing new about the Iphone 3g S. "It has a 3megapixel camera." This is PHONE, it's not a dedicated camera, so the difference in camera quality is not going to be noticeable. "It has a compass." Really....a compass...and how many of you are actually gonna use this? Not just that, this is a data-based compass, meaning you have to have a data connection for this thing to function properly. So when your in the middle of the ocean or in the wilderness when a compass is actually needed, you more than likely won't have a cellular connection which means your compass doesn't work. "It has voice controls." I bet you EVERYONE has had owned a phone with voice control and never once used it. It's just not convenient and it's time-consuming.
Your way better off buying a 3g now that they're $99 and wait for the 3.0 update. Of course, you can come to my store and pick up either a 3g or a 3g S and i'd be more than happy to sell you one :D

The major difference between the 3g and the 3g S is the memory space, you're right. Don't forget the Iphone 3g was supposed to have a faster processor than the 2g also, did you notice a difference? ;)

Not really. But I think in that case it was the same processor, the phone was just using less resources so it could move faster when you needed it to. In this case I think it's the unit out of the iPod touch

see the main reason i'd want a 3gs is bc of the ability to video record...but then again i do realize once you jailbreak it you can install an app that'll let you do the same thing...either way, i need to come see you soon after 3.0 hits to get my shit jailbroken :D

Already the 3GS is incurring fanboy wrath: For 3G owners not yet eligible for a new phone, the 32GB costs $499 and the 16GB costs $399—and even more without contract. Three tiers of official pricing below:
How do you qualify for the announced pricing? New customer, new line of service, presumably contract renewal, that sort of thing. Update: AT&T confirms that most iPhone 3G owners will be eligible for the good upgrade price after 18 months. Last year, people who owned iPhone Numero Uno got a shoo-in, but apparently that's not the deal now. To add insult to injury, you'll even have to pay an $18 upgrade fee to jump from 3G to 3GS.
Here's the skinny, sent straight to us from AT&T:
iPhone 3G S: Device Pricing
• iPhone 3G S will cost $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) for new and qualifying customers.
• If you are not currently eligible for an upgrade but still want iPhone 3G S, early upgrade prices are $399 (16GB) and $499 (32GB)
• No-commitment pricing: $599 (16GB) and $699 (32GB)
WTF?
iPhone 3G: Device Pricing
• iPhone 3G will cost $99 (8GB) and, while supplies last, $149 (16GB) for new and qualifying customers.
• If you are not currently eligible for an upgrade but still want iPhone 3G, early upgrade prices are $299 (8GB) and, while supplies last, $349 (16GB)
• No-commitment pricing: $499 (8GB) and, while supplies last, $549 (16GB)
Upgrade eligibility varies with each customer, but in general, you will become eligible the longer your tenure in your service agreement. Customers can find out at www.att.com/iPhone or in one of our stores if they are upgrade-eligible.

With Sprint, if you call them more than 26 times in a month, they'll drop you. It cost them about $8/phone call to customer service. You just gotta call them everyday and tell them you're dropping phone calls. It's a long process but it works

Moving out of the country might not work on them because they have a larger network overseas than in the USA
If you're switching, I'd get an unlock code for your phone, sell it, and use the funds from that to pay for the contract break penalty

your upgrade eligibility date depends on a number of factors. the easiest thing to do would be to call in and check it.

well everyone just tells me on the phone the "by the book" dates, but according to what i've been told and experienced, it is 20 months when you become eligible...not 24.
I guess i'll go up to the att store on barrett tomorrow and talk to someone since they don't freaking answer the phone. I called at least 30 times today and got hung up on at least 10
