I-75 Blocked: Bus Falls From Interstate Ramp

POSTED: 5:55 am EST March 2, 2007
UPDATED: 6:47 am EST March 2, 2007

ATLANTA -- A tour bus tumbled off the Northside Drive bridge onto I-75 southbound, shutting down the Interstate in both directions.

There are reports of at least two fatalities. The bus was carrying a youth baseball team from Ohio heading to Florida.

The bus fell about 20 feet from Northside Drive and is blocking all southbound lanes.

Northbound lanes were shut down to allow emergency crews to get to the scene.

From what they are saying, the driver exited off 75 by mistake and when he realized it, he tried to get back on by making a sharp turn, which made the bus flip .... so sad :(

No kidding.

They're all going to have to come down from Ohio. It's going to be tough times for those families.

Here's how it happened.

On this part of I75 Southbound, you can get off and hop into Northside Drive through the HOV lane (left most lane of interstate). The guy accidentally got off. Assuming the bus was going 60mph, no way in hell he had enough time to stop that thing if he realized he got off even half way through that ramp. It's a rather short off ramp. Well, this off ramp leads to a bridge that is perpendicular to it with no road on the other side. So the driver tried to save it by turning right off of the exit onto the bridge but did not make it. The bus then rammed the three foot barrier with fencing and goes right over it.

I just got back from there to check it out.

Mike Morris of Marietta was traveling to work when he saw something blocking the southbound lanes of Interstate 75. He saw people climbing out of the top of the bus and called 911.

Morris describes the players this way "They were very dazed. A lot of them were very bloody. They had taken a very bad ride in the bus."

LOL wow, way to go captain obvious

I don't hear the helicopters anymore... hmm.

I work maybe 2000 feet from I-75. When I got to work, there were 4 helicopters hovering overhead.

Terrible accident. I have a feeling new signs will go up on this ramp very soon.

o shiat, on my way to lunch I saw a ambulance being towed into the Clayco Bus Complex. Wonder if this was the one....it had severe front end damage and a lot of damage along the entire driver's side.

Matt.. .you are so fucked up when it comes to sentimentel things..

What is sentimental to them? The bus? You don't really use sentimental to describe people to people. It is more so things you see or hear.
