well i drive an si, i pump at least 28$ 3 times a week premium. and yes i am complaining my car drinks gas. it is kinda my fault i like speed. and i do not need another job like that i am a manager. :blah:

i think it really depends on what u are looking for... i have a freind with a 02(i beleive) honda rebel 250 for like $1400. but if ur looking for like a sportsbike than ull mostlikely be a little higher....

they are ugly as hell but excellent bike for beginners and extremely cheap. that was with one search, I'm sure you could possibly find newer for around the same price if you did your research.

Im not trying to start a conflict but buying a bike in atlanta for just for the improved gas mileage is not really a smart thing, its kind of like when people buy bikes for the girls. Riding is extremely dangerous and should be done because you love to do it not because it saves gas.

The only bike you will be able to find for that price is are ~20 year old bikes in questionable mechanical shape.

You can pretty much forget about finding a sportbike for that price.

Also, buying a bike is not going to save you money because of better gas mileage. Do the math:

Lets say that you ride the bike instead of driving your car/SUV 10,000 miles a yea (which is way more than most people ride their bikes), then at $2.50 a gallon for gas, assuming 15 mpg for the truck and 40 mpg for a bike you will have saved $1041. Remember, your bike cost $1000, so you have saved $41 so far.... now you must take into account

•Riding gear:
helmet: $100-$150
jacket: ~$100
gloves: $20-$100

•Motorcycle license:
~$15 for permit, $20 for license

•Insurance:
~$80-$2000 a year depending on coverage and what you ride

•Maintenance:
~$100-$500 a year... whether its tires, oil, new battery, etc... a bike requires about twice as much maintenance as a car

•License Plate:
$40

.....So your $41 in savings has now become a $600 loss, and remember, this is all still assuming that you substitute 10,000 miles worth of driving for riding (which you wont' do because it gets cold or it rains or you have to carry stuff, etc).


In reality, you will probably break even on gas savings vs the cost of a bike after 7 years or so... but most people will have owned several different bikes in that time.

i agree with everything except the maintenance part, when i rode my buell on the street i never did anything except gas in it
yeah, every 2500 miles i would do oil, but thats super easy to do (we have a bike lift)
now i didnt do any burnouts or riding really aggressive, so that could play a part too, but im just saying.

Well, thats because you weren't babying your bike all that much. Depending on how much you ride, one year's riding should include:

*3-4 oil changes
*at least 10 chain lube jobs (easy, but still costs $)
*~1 tire change (depends on timing and the condition of your tires, but 1 a year is about average due to wear, or getting holes in your tire)
*lube clutch and throttle cable


Then theres always other maintenance that may or may not have to be done (valves, carbs, fuses, etc). If you aren't spending at least $100 a year on your bike then you either don't ride much, or you're neglecting it a bit.
