I want one
California-based tuner Currency Motors pulled out all the stops when putting its own take on the BMW M5. The shop added a pair of rear-mounted turbos, hand built intercooler system, and fully custom exhaust to turn the M5 into an 810 horsepower machine that Currency says can reach 240 mph. Despite the extra 310 horses, Currency didn't have to touch the seven-speed SMG.
In addition to the substantial powertrain revamp, Currency threw out the car's leather upholstery in favor of a black Florida crocodile skin and gray suede motif that will definitely get people talking.
All this will cost a whopping $350,000 and Currency will only build 10 of these. That's a lot of green, but its a lot of power and exclusivity. Besides, nobody ever said that twin turbos and croc-skin seats are cheap.

well done, i'm a big fan of remote turbo's after seeing some of the most ridiculous underhood setups.
So you pay $270k extra for two turbos, some wheels, and reskinned seats?
I'll take a Carrera Gt.

IDK, remote mount turbos are kinda tacky for me.
Nevertheless, pretty extraordinary setup if you ask me. But just not my taste.
with 350, I'd sport something else and it'd be hotter.

Currency could've at least sprayed the muffler tips down with some windex to make them shine. Looks like oily handprints all over the thing.

I would say this is completely overpriced. Im down with the m5 twin turbo thing but I dont want to be sitting on aligator skin. A) You dont know where its been, B) Why bring a swamp animal into your BMW?

Sweet, but overpriced. I can't imagine many people paying 350K for a BMW sedan. For that price I would get a SLR, CGT, or Saleen S7.

wow, i've never seen turbos mounted like that before. my initial thought was that there would be massive amounts of lag, but i guess being a big V8 like you guys said would reduce that. nice

i've seen those kits at the Sema show, isnt that turbo lag out the ass???Frequently Asked Questions http://www.ststurbo.com/f_a_q
Q: With the turbo so far back, don't you get a lot of turbo lag?
A: No, our turbochargers are sized to operate at this remote location. Just like any turbocharger, once the turbo is up to temperature and in the rpm range for which it was designed to operate. The boost comes on hard and fast. All of our systems will produce full boost below 3000 rpm.
If you were to take a conventional turbo and place it at the rear, you would have lots of lag and consequently, our turbo wouldn't work properly if mounted up front.
Q: With so long of intake and exhaust tubes, doesn't it take a while for the boost to build up?
A: No, our intake tubing volume is about the same as most conventional turbo setups that are running a front mounted intercooler, and less than many of them that run large intercoolers. We aren't talking about a small compressor filling up a large air tank, we are talking about a huge compressor filling up a very small volume which only takes a fraction of a second. Our systems compress the intake tubing in about .05 seconds. So much for turbo lag...
Q: Isn't there a huge pressure drop with such long intake tubes?
A: No, if the pipes were 100' long there would be but we are only talking a few extra feet and we size the charge air tubing so that it will flow without a large pressure drop. We typically will get about 1/4 to 3/4 lb difference between the turbo compressor and the intake manifold, which is nothing compared to the pressure drop across an intercooler. With high boost applications, these numbers will increase slightly.

thank u mr minded :) ur my heroi've been reading up on them...i'm thinking a custom kit on a 540i 6 speed would be fun ;) ....nearly 300hp stock, depending on pipe routing whether a twin setup can be used or not...so a 100-200hp upgrade would be nice :D
